TR-Rack! Smile

Won it for $197.50 on eBay, $70 worldwide shipping, and then croatian VAT on top of that. Still a good price, when compared to usual prices over here.

Magnificent sounding thingie. It will likely retire my old trusty X5D, when I convert some of my sounds from the X5D manually.

Yes seems like a good price ... I also still have the X5(not D) but the Trinity/Tritons sound a lot better and have more features.

Would the Track be a good choice for playing live with a controller? I wonder if patch changes would work fast via midi...
Also, what controller would you recommend that you can save registrations or pad touches to recall patches.. Thanks...

Yes, I think it is still a good choice to play on stage - however, editing is plain struggle. You have editors for it, however (Sound Diver, Trinitro - to some limited extent), but the best is to edit programs on a normal Trinity and then send patches to the rack.

The TR Rack has a lot of the controller functions, so you can save complete MIDI setups into combis, for example, and it is vastly sufficient if your controller can send program change messages, or switch channels easily.

Of course, the more controllers the merrier, and I consider aftertouch fairly essential, but YMMV. To me the Trinity keybed (made by Yamaha) is one of the best, so I would get a keyboard version and save the hassle with a controller and cables, etc.

Thanks Synthjoe,

I agree. I thought about it, for church playing i would love the Rack but then I don't want to carry my Trinity around. It is so precious and getting rather old. I wouldn't mind the rack if I can get at least 10 of my fav patches for the worship services... but i will see. I went to Guitar Center, and the best key feel i found was the axiom 61. Really natural feel as close to the Trinity. All the others felt cheap and bouncy, yak. Only the axiom felt natural and responded well. I might get the axiom.

Oh, I see! In that case I'd definitively get the TR Rack and use my favourite controller or get a decent one - so I think would have gone the exact same way you're considering.

It is for similar reasons that I got a TR Rack next to my two Trinities (a Plus and a V3pro). I use an M-Audio ProKeys88sx (an older model, the current closest sibling seems to be the Sono 88, I understand - even though I have not played it), and while it is very lightweight and the E. Piano sound (out of the 10 or so sounds it can play) is very good on the plus side, I'm hardly OK with the feel and accuracy of the keyboard. It is not quite adequate to play a piano sound expressively, I use a Kurz uPiano for the sound - but even the the built in (otherwise OKish) piano sound is far more difficult and less comfortable to control than with other, better quality controllers (weighing far more, though - so you can guess my priorities).

The only thing I can suggest further to your plan is to take your TR Rack with you to the shop (so get it first, you're not likely to go wrong with that move) and play the controller with the programs you're going to use. That'll give you a fairly good idea whether the Axiom is a good choice or not.
