So far I have owned an M1 and a Triton Le.
How is the Kross Grand Piano in relation to the M1 piano sound?
The same...different...better?

One of the piano patches offered on the Kross, is called "M1 Piano." That one sounds thin and compressed as compared to Kross Piano, Acoustic Piano, Bright Pianos 1 & 2, and a few others. I think the Kross Piano is more like the Krome piano. |

Thanks.
I will be getting mine from Sam Ash in Miami in late November.
Just trying to learn as much as possible till then.
The youtube videos are great, but it's good to know what a real person thinks. |

will you be getting the Kross-88 or Kross-61? Sounds like the 88, since your question is about piano sounds. But the M1 was a 61, so I'm not sure. It *is* a very different experience, playing the Kross piano sound from the K61 keyboard, compared to for example, when you hook up a Casio Privia PX330's Midi-Out to the Midi-In of the Kross 61. That is very good. The K61 keyboard is great: for an instrument of its pricepoint and weight. But the Kross piano programs really shine when played from a weighted keyboard. |

It will be the 61.
The stand I built when I had the M1 won't accommodate anything longer.
I was just wondering about the piano sound difference.

byllsong, you're going to be happy i think!
On the negative side, I've just begin to notice, when I hit a G above middle-C really hard, it kind of dies quickly, with a bit of a 'plunk' - but that may happen on real pianos too if you really wack them so that the string is being damped by either the hammer or the damper, I don't know which.
Another interesting fact: when you measure the width of the keys, I read somewhere that they are a little wider on the Kross than other synths; but when I measured the full 5 octave 61-note range, the total width is 4 mm. shorter than that of the Novation ReMOTE SL61. . . so compared to that fine keybed, each Kross key is .065mm narrower! It feels the same size though, since that's a super-small amount. |
