Gain Structure queries.

Post by s3kn0tr0n1c »

How do you set your electribe up in regards to gain?

Im also interested in where "unity" gain is on the master gain knob. Is it 12oclock? or maybe like a rane dj mixer at max(only attenuates)?

Ideally Im thinking I should run the master at unity gain. Then I keep each individual sound/track at -6db to allow headroom. Also having the pattern level set to 100 so there is a little headroom here also. Not that it should matter if each individual sound is at -6db.

There's no info on this, so it's all speculation right now. Personally I run all my patterns at 110 to start with, the master volume up full, and this gives me a pretty decent range with the individual part volumes.

Much more than that and I can get clipping with a few parts playing and heavy resonance, though the electribe main out is still a bit quiet compared to some other gear.

Thanks for that.

Yeh its a pretty weak user manual and info out from korg on this gear. For all that it would have took to place a marker at the 0db/unity gain point of knob.

You can use the LEDs underneath to help too, they hit red right before you start clipping. It's not exact by any means, but another bit of help always errr helps.

Set mine up into mackie mixing desk last night. This does seem to be the best way. With Mackie input gain at "U" I need the master up full on E2 with pattern level around 110 to get good level out.

I also set my TB-3 going through the electribe's input and I noticed that you get a small basic input level meter which also shows when you clip.

I find this weird they give you an input meter but no output meter.

I run mine through a cheap Akai mixer I picked up a while back. I run out of the electribe at full and keep the gain at 0 on the mixer. There's some basic eq I use if there's a frequency range that's too hot but otherwise the only leveling I do is per part. Maybe I touch the level on the mixer, but I don't usually have to.
