Motion recording in Step Jump mode is seriously wild!
Not sure how much this has been discussed. Maybe I'd already read about it and it was just sitting in the back of my brain all this time. It just kind of hit me while sitting in traffic today and experimented with it a bit when I got home.
Hit the Step Jump button. Hold down one or multiple steps, hit record button then grab a knob or hit a button and record across the selected step(s). Now let go and listen. Also you can use an external midi controller and record notes(s) and CC across selected step(s) as they fly by.
For motion it's business as usual, you get one pass from the time you make a control change until rec switches off. That's the tricky part but it's handy live. Note play keeps looping and recording whatever you select until you switch off. For thoughtful composition you can slow the tempo to a crawl to get more detail in.
This may also be your workaround for some of your step edit woes.

Great tip!!!!! I will try this out later, but I think this is going to change my work flow with motion sequence recording!!!! I totally miss the step edit of motion sequences from the EMX.

I forgot to mention the Kaoss pad note entry might be useful if you change the part to Mono. You can poke single notes into the sequence quickly this way.
Update: Interesting results with recording various notes and gates using Kaoss pad while multi-selecting steps in Step Jump mode.
This has turned out to be like a cool free-running sequencer/step edit mode!

Well, i tried this out eventually....

Anybody who misses the motion sequence editing from ESX-1/EMX-1 NEEDS to check this out. For me this technique is quicker and easier than scrolling away on a data wheel and you can use it across multiple steps at the same time.

Haha. Thanks but it wasn't me. It was those Santa's Elves that work at Korg in the off-season and giggle at each other when they think about some shmuck like me stumbling across one of their creative ideas hidden in plain sight. They also write anemic documentation. Little Sneakers!
It's funny you mentioned it because I just recorded and uploaded a tune to SC called "Winds Day" where I used this very thing to plug in notes for a sequence playing to a MS-20M.

I, too, applaud your resourcefulness, Mr. Steinberger.
I spend about 20 seconds in step editing mode to discover what this was the least loved feature for those Korg developpers. Your workaround *really* is a game changer for me too.
I'd really like to have a word with the guy who wrote the Electribe's manual. There is basically no hint at all about what this machine is capable of.
