And Maurice White only a few weeks ago. Lemmy. Bowie. Sad days, indeed.

RIP, luckily he left the world (and keyboardists in general) a lot of good music. _________________

What a year this is turning out to be for losing leading lights in the business. We all have our favourite bits of Keith Emerson. For me, it was his performance of Karelia Suite at Fairfield Hall in Croydon - must've been around 1973-74.

OMG. How sad and terrible. Truly the end of an era, and the passing of an
amazing keyboardist and person. I hope he's at peace...
I'll never forget having him stop by in Japan during a Korg Voicing meeting
for the original red Karma Workstation, this was probably 1999 or 2000.
We all went out for sushi together, and he was truly the warmest, nicest guy.
I treasure that photo... and the memory... and the impact he made on my life
and some of the directions it took. He was probably one of the main reasons
I was inspired to go after being a keyboardist. RIP Keith.

Stephen,
You summed that up so well., and it's always nice to hear anecdotes that get behind the public persona.
It was the giants like Emerson and Wakeman that inspired me to get into keyboards/synths (along with an interest in electronics) when my musical awakening was happening in the late 70s. I only have a fraction of their talent, so players like Keith have always had me in awe. And then there was the showmanship!
RIP Keith. You will be sorely missed. _________________ Derek Cook - Java Developer

This makes it even sadder. Especially for me. He was in all likelihood the most influential keyboard player I had heard up untill my mid twenties. I had heard rumours that his playing abilities hdd seriously diminished over the last several years. One has to wonder if this had contributed to depression.

It feels like we have to say goodbye to a musical hero every other week. Or every week in this case, has George Martin even been buried yet? |

Very sad indeed RIP Keith.
What I find really tragic, given how many people (Myself included)must have been inspired and touched with his abilities and musicianship and such a great fan base he must have accumulated over his career, that in his hour of need he felt so alone and depressed to take his own life, its one thing to be in a dark place, but I can't imagine what it must feel like as an icon like Keith to find himself in such a position that the only way out is to end it all.
2016 is turning out to be a very sad year indeed for the losses so far of some great Musicians and figures of the Music business.
Prays and thoughts to Keiths Family |

Wow! Such a sad loss for progressive rock enthusiasts. He was, without a doubt for me, one of the most influential keyboardists I followed. I still have in my archives, Brain Salad Surgery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmtWExgQYs4 I'm always amazed at his wizardry. There must be some fabulous concert going in the after life. So many greats passing on.
Peace and Golden Bells to you my friend. _________________ Cheers,
