|
|
Hi guys,
Sorry for posting here, but I figure a lot of you might have owned pa3x prior to becoming Pa4x owners.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening.
I was planning on selling my Pa3x, just got home from vacation, was getting my listing ready for eBay.
Ready to do a final check on my pa3x, pressed the buttons next to to the screen, and the surround felt sticky and tacky, enough for it to actually slightly mark the plastic when I wiped it with a damp cloth. Also the plastic surround for the ribbon controller .
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen. Needless to say, it’s put a dampener on my trying to sell.
With all the keyboards I’ve had over the last 30 + years, this is a first for me.

This was mentioned by someone on the Pa3x section back in January and has happened to me as well. The only part I really need to touch is the strip near the ribbon controller so I put some tape there so it doesn't bother me.

Interesting that we are both in Australia. Might have something to do with heat and humidity - after all the tar on our roads has a habit of melting in summer!
Or maybe it only happens in the Southern hemisphere (Looking at the above post).
I have a torch (US translation flashlight) I bought from Aldi that has done this as well. _________________ Free SoundFonts: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/

Hi Reuben,
Thank you for the reply and link. Really weird isn’t it. Have to wonder if it may have something to do with humidity. I’m sure it wasn’t like that before I went on holidays.
Doesn’t really bother me except that I’d been hoping to sell it. Oh well.
Thanks again. _________________ best wishes

Just a long shot, but since this is experienced by more than one, maybe Korg know about it, and have a solution?
It may be it's caused by faulty production, i.e. a batch have got wrong mix in the 'plastic fantastic' _________________ Cheers 🥂

I haven't checked my Pa4x and I've never owned a Pa3x, but here in Central Florida, anything that is a certain type of plastic tends to get sticky. I've had Mic Stands, TV Remotes, etc etc turn sticky.
The only way I have found to eliminate the "stickiness" is to use Talcum powder or baking soda. However, this will tend to whiten whatever you sprinkle it on. Others have suggested using Isopropol Alcohol. I haven't really tried any other type of solution, so if you find something that works let me know. _________________ Pa5x, Yamaha Genos, ForeScore

Hi Jonny, interesting thought. Lived in my home for 14 years, had more than half a dozen keyboards ( incl. 3 korgs) during this period. All have only been used in the home, so they have all been exposed to the same temperatures etc. Does seem pretty odd that none of the others have had this problem. _________________ best wishes

Hi All
Has anybody managed to find a solution to the sticky rubber/plastic surround on the PA4X LCD display ? Mine has lived in a dark, clean room with no extreme temperatures all it's life and the rubber surround is really sticky - almost wet its that sticky. Cleaning it doesn't help. I used to own an Oasys that had the same problem with fader knobs. _________________ Steve M

Hi Steve,
Me, no. I mentioned to my salesman, said he’d never heard of it, also mentioned it to korg, seemed surprised too.
Strangely enough it also happened to an external sound card of mine, at the time it had been stored in a box in a cupboard with some other bits and pieces, I thought I’d spilt something on it, wasn’t till it happened to the korg , that I realzed it wasn’t the case.
It happened to my pa3x, yours is a Pa4x? _________________ best wishes

I'm tempted to think the problem is humidity related - most of the posts are from Australia and Florida. Then again, there's no one chiming in from other humid areas of the world.
Have to say that I've never heard of this here in Alberta with our generally cool, very low humidity climate. Mind you, that brings its own set of problems like schlepping gear in and out of gigs slipsliding around on ice. Worst was my Pa3x's screen freezing up with the image barely showing. Took 30 minutes of warm towels on it to resurrect it.
Sorry, I digressed. _________________ When I nod my head . . . Hit it!

Hi, where I lived, we did have a lot of humidity. I was away during the time it happened, and it was late summer, so could have been very humid.
Didn’t affect my Pa4x or my psr. Though.
Might try the metho. _________________ best wishes

It sounds as though it is the result of a chemical reaction between the surround, contaminants on the surround and residues on the cleaning cloth.
Reuben’s post seems to indicate that this was the case as his use of Meths (Denat Alch) has neutralised the iuuse. _________________ Biggles
