Tip: Pruning a drum pattern without editing

Post by bpoodoo »

This tip applies to most Korg workstations.

Let's say you have a Program or Combi that uses a drum arpeggio pattern you like, except for some note(s) you'd like to delete.

Instead of copying the existing arpeggio pattern to a new pattern to delete those notes, you can in many cases simply modify the keyboard zone from Menu>P4:Edit-Zone/Ctrl to exclude that note (or a range of notes) using appropriate settings for Top Key and/or Bottom Key.

This works most easily for excluding notes at the top or bottom of the keyboard range, but it can also work for the more general case. Combi A004 Urban Nature RnB is a good example - it splits the playing of the same drum arpeggio pattern across 3 tracks, each playing a different section of notes.
