Gain is one way to increase perceived loudness.

I'm assuming that you're using the GM explosion SFX. It actually has a pitch component and a "sweet spot" for play back that is within about a 5th of middle C either way depending on your tastes.

As you have it at the extreme left end of the keyboard, if you don't raise the pitch the explosion SFX may be very low/slow in actual play which, depending on your system, can fall into the "too low to hear" range where it mostly sounds more like a mudslide or earthquake rumble.

Try raising the pitch by +12 to +24. That will put the "pitch" closer to middle C and get you back to the actual sound you want without over-using IFX.

raffi.nordiguian wrote:i used once that explosion when i was playing Finally Free outro (if you re a Dream theater fan) and experienced the same problem.

what i did is add an Tube PreAmp effect and messed with the Gain.

It worked, the explosion was loud.
I think for an explosion it would be a good idea, wonder about a clean sound though.

I also combined it with a cannon sound, which I found in one of the patches uploaded on this forum...Now it sounds like WW3 is coming. The patch is called "Subsonic War Drums" really cool patch, if you're interested I can look exactly in which patch I found it.

Actually I don't use the M50 anymore (except as keybed).

I went to check the kronos last month...Except for the piano patch I didn't see many improvements in sound quality. I think the kronos symbolizes the end of an era for Korg and the following workstations will bring something totally new in terms of sound. At least that's what I'm hopping for. :)

Hmm ... I think the opposite. For me the Kronos was the first (except Oasys) in a long time that really improved a lot (soundwise). I think the Kronos is the first of a new era (well second after Oasys).

Could you give me an example of what actually improved? Cause the strings and choirs section looked the same to me, I didn't check anything else cause those were the main sounds that interested me, maybe I missed something.

I think in general most samples (HD-1) sound better than before. But on M50 strings/choirs were already quite well.

What mostly improved are all modeling engines for SGX-1 (grand piano), EP-1 (electric piano), STR-1 (acoustic) guitars, MOD7 (Yamaha DX7 FM synthesis), Al-1 (analog synthesizer), MS20 (MS20 synth), PolySix ... did I miss one ?

Yep that piano might prove useful, but the m50 has a good sample too, if you know how to edit it a little you can get something really good.

But I don't think the kronos will provide me more than the m50 and to spent 3000 euro just for a good piano patch, I'll have to call it a pass and wait for the next korg workstation, where they hopefully add some new choir/strings patches comparable to software.

edit: Just to clear things up, this is just according to my needs, I'm not saying kronos is not an improvement compared to the m50, cause it definitely is. All I'm saying is that it didn't improve in the direction that I need.

Yesit's always a tradeoff between cost and improvement what you already have. THat's why I bought an M50 instead of an M3 that time (too less improvements compared with the Extreme... but enough to buy the M50).
