Host1 and Host2 USB issues

Post by KauserImtiaz »

I inserted a brand new 1tb SSD in Host1. Pa5x asked to reformat it which I did. Now, it cannot be seen by either Pa5x or my laptop.

I am wondering if;
1. I made an error in formatting (this is highly doubtful)
2. there is a size limit (1 tb is too big?)
3. Issues using SSD?

Has anyone run into this issue? I could not find any information on the forum. Please help.

Thank you,

Sincerely,
Kauser

I would try and re-format the card externally to FAT32.

Thanks RikW.

FAT32 is most widely used but it is slow. Most high capacity drives come formatted as exFAT these days. I am surprised Pa5x still uses FAT32. Generally, exFAT is pretty compatible with FAT32 devices, but it may not be true for Pa5x.

I am sure I can work around this.

- If you can't see SSD in your Win laptop , go to computer manager/Disk manager , select new disk and change drive letter adding letter to disk.
- Then use a disk utility for formatting it to FAT32 , since windows do not address high capacities in Fat but only in exFAT.
- ExFAT & NTFS maybe be a little faster in big monolithic files but all have the same speed in small files , and this is of what Pa5X KST files are !
- USB port in Pa5X do not meet the speed of USB 3,2 port of a PC/Laptop it is still too slow compared to pa5X upper mSD port.
- It's completely useless to use any USB external SSD into Pa5X , you can never reach nominal SSD speed and a fast USB 3 thumb drive
is always the best option in any aspect.
- As last , external USB SSD drives have various USB protocols and might not be compatible to Pa5X USB port , never use adapters in media storage.

Hope this helps

Thank you Antony.

Nice clarification. I have a better idea on how I want to use the USB ports.

It was never my plan to use large/fast SSDs in Pa5x. I have a1Tb SSD which is dedicated to my music management via PC. While working on 5x, I want to transfer or search files on the SSD. Therefore, a direct connection to 5x saves me going back to my PC saves a couple steps and time.

I also wish Pa5x having a USB C port as well. This is the current default port on many computers and electronic devices.

Thank you,
