fire wire problem with ZERO 4
I've got a korg zero 4 yesterday and I have this problem:
I install the korg firewire driver and in the end of install the installer ask me to plug on the firewire cable and start my zero 4 but nothing hapened just have a message that say the computer doesn't find the mixer and I have to re-plug in..
Untill now I can not use the firewire connection!!!
Is the problem can come from the cable???
Because on my laptop it is a 4 pins plug and on the zero 4 a 6????
A friend told me that the 2 plug are 100% compatible.
Could you help me?
My computer is a HP DV6025EA

G'day,
I had the same problem with the Zero8 mixer. I pulled the cable out of the PC and rebooted then went had a coffee and a smoke and came back and plugged the mixer back in to the PC and it found it OK. It took a while for things to settle down after installing drivers and the edit software but seems to be OK now.
The 4 pin FW cable is simply a 6 pin FW cable without the power connections so for data they are 100% compatible.
Also I am running Vista so I suspect that there may be some niggling problems with this. What OS are you running?
Glen.

Yes I use the same cable on my Laptop 6pin-4pin.
All I would suggest is to remove the drivers and software and try a reinstall. Make sure you turn off any anti-virus apps.
Maybe even look at update for you FW card driver for the laptop. In the past I have had to do this so that my Mackie Onyx mixer could talk to the FW card in the PC properly.

There are nearly always issues with FW and PCs, sometimes they work easy but most of the time they have issues. Somedays a setup that has been working for months can all of a sudden give you grief...
When I first got my Mackie Onyx mixer it took me a month or so to get it to work properly...
Some firewire PC cards are crap as well. From memory the Texas Instruments ones are ok, cannot remember which ones are crap??
Perhaps you should do some google on firewire issues, maybe the ableton forums could help.

No external power needed for soundcard in the Zero 4

No power comes from the fire wire IEEE1394 cable (Page-19 in manual) it sends 3 in 3 out midi interface.
It also sends a maximum of 8-in 16 out audio streams.
Hope that helps.
Peace & blessings.
hi,
i have the same problem with my zero8. i am using a dawicontrol FW800 PCIcard, which is using a texas instruments chipset.
waiting a few minutes before clickin next does not make the zero8 work at my winxp pc.
i tried installing the drivers without the setuptool, zero8 was found and seemed to work, no errors shown in the windows system-manager.
but if i want to use the mixer in ableton live, it tells me the ASIO driver is not installed. but i rather dont know a way to install the asio.dll
has anyone a solution or any idea?
thanks a lot,
mo
