SW question

Post by pagey »

I have a patch set up in sequencer mode that I want to use the SW switch to change which instruments play across the keyboard. Is this possible?

I want a piano to play the whole key range of the keyboard for the intro part and then using the footswitch to be able to change the SW1 switch to move to playing strings so that I dont have to take my hands of the keys mid performance.

Is it possible to do this and if so how?

I've read the manuals but i'm struggling to pull this off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:D

I don't think that you can use the SW to change a program.
However, you can create a CC event to change it.

1. Track Edit.
2. Create Ctrl Data (Input the measure where you want the change to start) Press OK
3. Event Edit (Check only the Control Change and Program Change boxes)
4. Look for CTRL at the measure you specified.
5. Highlight CTRL and change it to PROG
6 Change the program.

thanks tritex4

I'm using sequencer mode purely as a means to play multi instruments, not to play an actual sequence so it looks like I can't do it.

It works to a degree by using SW to change octaves but unfortunately doesn't give full full coverage of all the keyboard so I keep running out of keys! (i should have brought the 88 note and then problem would be solved! :D )

ah well thanks anyway, guess i'll have to figure something else out.

I've just been playing around with COMBI H12"Hey!<SW>Brothers" and discovered that when you have SW2 switched on it plays sax and when you switch SW2 off it plays organ.

I've looked at the settings and the only thing I can see is that the midi channels are different for Sax and organ so it looks like it can be done after all just can't quite get my head round how yet.

Anyone help?

This was an oldie but a goodie. I figured I'd learn something along the way if I could answer it. It's a neat trick how it's done.

During performance of combi H012 we hear:
SW1 OFF,SW2 OFF = organ and sax
SW1 OFF,SW2 ON = sax only
SW1 ON,SW2 OFF = organ only
SW1 ON,SW2 ON = neither

The way this is done is in the combination insert effects definitions and the different routing used for the organ (timbre 1) and the sax (timbre 3).

P8:Edit-Insert FX, Routing tab
we see that the organ is routed to IFX3 then to IFX4, and the sax is routed to IFX2.

In IFX4 (Stereo Limiter) the line
Gain Adjust +10 Src SW 2: CC#81 Amt -63
mutes the organ when SW2 is on.

In IFX2 (Stereo Compressor) the line
Output Level 50 Src SW 1: CC#80 Amt -50
mutes the sax when SW1 is on.

Elapsed time to answer: 12 years, 3 months, 29 days

I've been looking for an answer to this question for about a decade. I finally will be able to pull it off. Thanls bpoodoo for your answer.

I challenge the great minds in this forum to come up with another way to switch between patches when in Sequencer mode. I don't mind wating a bit :D

In Sequencer mode, it's more straightforward to change the program assigned to a track at a particular measure/beat during playback.
MENU>P5:Track Edit, Select Track##, upper right select "Event Edit", uncheck all but Program Change, scroll to the measure where you want the program change and select the meter event, click Insert (this creates an empty PROG change event), fill in Bank: and P:, click Done.

Sequencer mode could also be used as a poor man's Set list. An empty song with no measures could be created and loaded simply for the purpose of creating program pointers, one per track, which could easily be cycled through using the value up-down buttons. The song would also specify and store the overall effects settings and Tone adjustments for the program in each track.
