XRM 1.3 now available

Post by Mickb »

Hi all

I'm very pleased to announce that at long last XRM version 1.3 is now available for download for anybody who wishes to try it out.

www.dunbharra.net/korg/downloads/xrmsetup.zip

It has been tested on a PA1X Pro and appears to be working fine. Included in the zip file is an incomplete user guide which contains installation and setup instructions. ( I did not want to keep you waiting any longer until I got the guide finished )

There is an email addresses setup for any bug reports which is xrm_bugs@dunbharra.net

Enjoy and let me know of any problems found
Regards

Mick

Hi Mick,

This is brilliant, thank you. Could you confirm which file formats it works with?

I assume it works with all Pa1x and Pa80 file formats, but it doesn't work with Pa800 file formats at the moment. If so, are you awaiting the DLL/API from Korg before you can get it working with the Pa800 file formats?

Hi Mick,

Is XRM suitable as a framework to fulfill all the objectives in your routemap? Did Rick give you permission to onward develop in any way you wish so long as it remains freeware/ shareware? Also how is collaboration with Alain going - what's his view of XRM?

Rob yes I feel it is suitable as a framework-- I am using it to test out some of my code planned for that and using it to learn more about the workings of the file formats , regarding Ric giving me permission, I am still waiting for a reply, but I feel as he previously stated that he was looking for someone to continue the development so long as it remained freeware, I'm hoping he won't object.

Regarding file formats: due to the way XRM imports the data from a style/performance there is no need for XRM to be able to decompress it. It is designed as a librarian rather than an editor. Hopefully this will make it a relatively easy matter to incorporate the PA800 format styles. however I need to add a routine to determine which format is being imported and to mark it permanently so as to prevent the wrong format being loaded on the wrong keyboard.
Regards

Hi Mick,

Once again, very many thanks for the fantastic work you've been doing. Just a quick Q:

Without decompressing styles and sounds, will it be possible to determine which sounds are used by which styles? Will it also be possible to relocate user sounds and modify all the numerous pointers in the corresponding style(s) ?

Look forward to meet up with you in June.

HI Rob,

No it is not possible at present to determine which sounds are used by which styles, XRM is only a librarian not and editor as yet, it can be used to manage a users collection of styles and performances, allowing the user to rearrange styles in a .STY file on the computer so that they can be loaded onto the keyboard in a single "LOAD" rather than having to open the .STY file on the keyboard and load each style individually.

At a later stage, the plan is to develop an "add in" for decompressing and modifying the style data.

I'm looking forward to June as well :)

Just to remember the two Rick´s conditions:

1) If you build some kind of software from it, that new software should be free
2) If you build some kind of software from it, insert a credit message in it
