Stereo Speakers for PA-800
Can some one please recommend a pair of good quality (medium price range) and light weighted speakers for PA-800. Just FYI, I already have a heavy amplifier and these speakers will be used in my basement and may be used outside of the house once a moon time.

Hi Rob: How about this model; Alesis M1 Active 520 75W which is half the price of Active 620 (about $199.00). The only difference that I could see, the former is 100 W and this one is 75W. I could not find the dimensions or the weight for these. I am interested on your thoughts on this considering that I am a hobbyist.
As usual, thx for helpful advices.

Hi Arash,
May I suggest you consider the Roland CM30 Monitor. (Powered 30 Watt Cube) You have 3 Channels, individual volumes, Headphone Socket. Global Bass & Treble. Aux in for CD/MP3 or what ever. (Ch.1 Has XLR & 1/4" Jack)
You can link a pair together for stereo, or in fact up to 8 together. They are mountable onto a regular Mic stand, (remove the boom arm first !) They are very punchy and incredibly versatile keyboards & for a range of instruments, including recording and personal stage monitors including vocals.
Weight 12Lbs.
Kind Regards,
Eamon

Please note: Although with the CM30 there is a stereo link to connect a pair to form a stereo 30W per channel system, there is no capability to connect more speakers than this. You can have up to 10 inputs in the stereo link system. For me, 30W per channel is definitely not enough for anything apart from living room use. Why pay the extra for ruggedised cabinet etc, when it will be no use for gigging? A pair of Alesis M1 620's at 65 W per channel would be great for home use and would be OK for small/medium size venue use so long as you are careful transporting them. Or you could consider a pair of Roland KC-150's which are also 65 W per channel but have ruggedised cabinets for transportation.
Hi Guys,
In my opinion (from a medium sized bands prospective) the KC150, is only adequate as a personal monitor within a band. If entering into this category, it would be better to go for a higher model as it’s an expensive price to pay for a personal monitor that does not handle an arranger keyboard as well as it handles straight synth or piano.
The KC350 =49Lbs {22kg} (€499.00), rated {120 Watts} is perfect for all venues large to small but very weighty. Sounds amazing with the PA1xPro & PA800. (Used to use the PA80 & PA50 also, since sold)
Now back to the original question in hand:
Arash’s briefing; Good quality, pair, medium price range, & light weight speakers.
Again I stress, in my opinion; my answer is well thought out & accurate. I actually own & gig all listed amps & keyboards. I believe equipment should pay for itself. Functionality with versatility is one way of insuring this aspect, which was also taken into consideration with my reply. Arash mentions that he already has the heavy duty equipment.
Here are some comparisons of weight, price in Euros’ & Wattage– it’s all relevant.
• Roland KC 150 = 30 Lbs, 14oz {14 kg} (€359.00) {65 Watts} (small-medium gig without drummer, my personal assessment)
• Roland KC60 = 26Lbs, 8 oz {12,5 kg} (€272.00) {40 Watts} (home/studio use, my personal assessment.)
• Roland CM 30 = 12Lbs, 6oz {5.4 kg } (€166.00) {30 Watts} (home/studio use, my personal assessment.)
With Regards to the Roland CM 30 as I first mentioned, they are very punchy. Have you tried them ? I use them sometimes. I’m on the road over thirty years. I don’t recommend equipment lightly; my reputation is everything to me.
Why with Arash’s intended use would he wish to add more speakers ? They are intended to be stereo speakers for basement use. (30 watts is ample.)
Now to the Alesis M1 Active 620 Powered Monitor Speakers, 21.0 lbs (9.6 kg) Each Unit
€299.00, this side of World. They would not meet my personal criteria of been road worthy, yet light weight, functional, versatile, & self paying over a short time period. I just think when entering this price range, one should be able to use them with comfort when playing (even if only occasionally) amongst people who understandably don’t have an appreciation of delicate equipment, in obviously what is going to be a small intimate gig, with people possibly on top of you.
The Roland CM30 also has a line out, should you wish to connect to a PA system. You can also split your outputs from the PA800 (or PA1x &2 Pro) to have separate volume controls on the Roland CM30 for drums, bass, keyboard, or your personal configuration. They are very secure on top of straight mic stands. Plenty of research & try before you buy. It’s what ever is right for you. We can only voice our experiences here, which can either hinder or help unless carefully considered. Suck it & see !
Kind Regards,
Eamon.

The numbers (30w output) do not tell the whole story. I use the CM30s on small gigs all the time. The sound is very clear and more than loud enough for the typical 50-75 nursing home jobs I do. Larger ones I use the Yamaha PAS.
On the other hand they are too rugged looking for home, and I am seriously considering the Alesis 520/ 620 for home. I use Alesis Monitor One's with an Alesis amp at church for my own monitors as I do the mixing before it is sent to the main church board, and they sound great and very realistic compared to what is heard in the church.

How many user samples do you want to load at any one time? How long will your samples take to load to RAM each time? As for me, I'm not sure I want to use more than 64 Mb sample RAM most of the time due to the delays on startup while loading it from disk. Anyway, if Korg update the Pa800 with more sample RAM then it won't be the Pa800 any more it will be a new design.
There have been several threads discussing choice of speakers for the Pa2x (please search for them). Suggest you look for discussions about Roland C30 and Alesis M1 520 monitor speakers and see which you prefer.
