Protected PCM samples with a special USB stick

Post by marlo74 »

It seems like Korg has incorporated a new technology into their PA2X & PA800 O.S to allow users to encrypt the PCM data within the SET. It is being done to protect the copyrights of the sample PCMs.

The way it works is that when you get the special USB stick that has the SET. You load it normally just like any other SET. The encrypted samples will be decrypted using a special encryption key on the USB stick and loaded into the PA. However all encrypted samples will be grayed out and the PA user will not be able to view, edit or save the samples.
Everytime you turn off the keyboard and turn it back on, the USB stick will have to be inserted into the USB port so the PCM samples can be Decrypted and used. If the USB stick was not plugged in, you will get a message telling you to inset the special USB stick.
I tried contacting KORG USA to get more information about this capability. But they did not even know about it. I think that they pretended not knowing about it.
If anyone has more information about this, please let us know. I am very interested in copyrighting my PCM within my SET.

Protected set

I wish korg could make the software used on the encription of the set available to us. That would certain encourage many profissional musics to make profissional styles to sell. The copy from user to user of profissional paid styles is a very bad thing.... I'm probably one that keyboardists. Please mr tramannoni. This will give a good push on korg pa styles market.

This techology really exists. Korg only suply the techology to some developers. (http://www.ayoub-music.de/Protected%20P ... 0Stick.pdf). I think there is also a method to protect the resources on a set. So if you try to copy the set it will say the resources are protected. You can see this kind of protection on the musikant usb pen for korg pa800 / pa2xpro.

The problem is that Korg is not willing to share any information with the users on how to utilize this capability. Try calling their customer support, they will pretend to be ignorant when it comes to this subject.

Marlo74,

Korg is not ignorant. The USBs are protected from Korg Italy and to my knowledge the technology of the protection of the USB must be done in Italy for the Korg arrangers products.

AK,
I did not say that they were ignorant. I said that they pretend to be ignorant. Also, why do we have to contact Korg Italy. What's wrong with the Korg USA branch? It is the same company and should have the same level of support.

Apparently Korg USA is by far larger than Korg ITALY, Italy is responsible for the arrangers and all queries should be addressed to them. It is like having an OASYS or a M3 and contacting Korg ITALY for support, they can't help you.
