Argh! Broken key on Oasys 88

Post by ryan42 »

I have a key on my Oasys that is working intermittently, and when it works it is almost always at velocity 127. It feels the same as the rest but something must be awry. Has anyone worked on the keybed of one of these things? The last time I worked on a keybed was on my old EX5, but hopefully I can fix whatever's screwed up.

harder to disassemble than to repair

Post by Hanon_CTS »

Hello ryan42,
I had a similar problem with my M3-88.
It's one of the two contacts associated with that key.
On mine it was a small sliver of neoprene under the first contact, once I cleaned it away, the key responded to velocity again.

There's two contacts per key, the first "closer to the contact strip", and a second one father away. Timing between when the first and second is interpreted as velocity.

If only the second one touches it's always interpreted as velocity value 127

It takes way longer to disassemble and reassemble the instrument than to do the actual repair.

I hope this helps,

Cheers, Hanon
