Click track from COMBI mode?

Hi all:

Someone kindly told me before how to get the TEX to output a click via a separate channel in SEQ mode, but can this be done in COMBI mode?

Basically I need to send a click out to our drummer for songs using arpeggio patterns - Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran is the main culprit!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Never tried this myself but can't see why you shouldn't be able to assign an Arpeggio(Drum pattern) to a drum timbre inside the combi tracks

Then modify the key range of that timbre to play a single fixed note,(simply make sure the top and bottom key range of that Timbre are the same key,say C2 or something,this will only trigger that note you assing here,regardless of how many notes are in the arpeggio pattern)this could act as a metronome,then route this timbre to an individual out to the drummers headphones so its seprate from the main outs if you wish to play other sounds in that combi setup.

Thanks for this - I'd been wondering if that was the way to do it, but you made it much clearer where to start.

According to this way, one has to reserve an arpeggiator out of two only for the click. And that's seems quite limiting.

Doesn't another solution exists?

I can see where you're coming from. As a performance tool click is handy.

So, agreed (guardedly). It's limited.

But the combis (IMO) weren't meant to be the end product, merely a step along the way to a full blown sequence, where you can add a click track.

If Korg were to add a click option (OS update) to Combis then people would ask why it wasn't implemented on programs too; after all, the tempo clock is still there. New can of worms.

So what can you do?

In practical terms, not a whole lot. Click would have to be part of a combi's arp structure, as suggested by Kontrol49.

The bad thing about that is there is no output until you start playing at which point there is an arp running that could be sent to aux out/drums, but your sync'd start with the drummer is offset by a beat or two, plus the keys are (probably) sounding. There is no "start arp output" button except a key strike.

You might be able to build in a "dead" key to start the arp/click. That would allow you to not play keyboard sounds while the arp would be playing. And again that would take a dedicated arp.

You might find an outboard piece of gear that generates both a click and a clock -- an el-cheapo drum machine with a tap tempo and midi out. Set the Triton's MIDI clock to external, tap-tempo the drum machine and push play. DM's output to phones for drummer &/or in-ear's for the band and away you go.

For the truly techno savvy the only other option I can see is the option I can see... that tempo light on the front of the board that is sync'd to the tempo clock looks suspiciously like something that could be modded to generate a click. [DISCLAIMER: Modifying your keyboard circuitry can void your warrantee.] Perhaps even a non-invasive light sensor that could be mounted over the blinkin' LED to turn a light (blink) to sound (click)?
