Tutorial: 07 Setup Kronos & VST for Live Recording
Korg Kronos Tutorial: 07 Setup Kronos And VST Instruments for Live Performance and Recording (Internal Summing)
This tutorial explains how to setup a your computer environment to play and record VSTi's live (in this tutorial i use Omnisphere) on separate audio channels in your DAW (Cubase is used for this tutorial).
(switch to 1080P so you can better read the captured screens)
This tutorial is intended for Studio Musicians who uses the Kronos in a Computer Based Environment or producers (especially the internal summing part). The tutorial shows a couple of tricks that most people don't know.
The following topics are explained:
- Setup your DAW for internal summing (every VSTI channel can be routed internally to their own Audiochannel in realtime. This way everything you play live will be recorded in realtime on their own channel.
- Setup Omnisphere for live performances, Omnisphere has a great live performance feature called LIVE where you can toggle up till 8 sounds that you can use when you play on the Kronos.
The first part of the video is a demo of this technique in action, from 4.25 on the tutorial of how to setup the environment is shown. In the video demo i'm using a touch screen and an Ipad with the APP Omni to toggle the sounds. But you can also do this with your mouse on the computer if you don't have a touch screen or ipad.
You can find the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd23OjFZjz8
I hope you like it.

thanks!Lou wrote:+10
Very nice and extremly informative. Thanks for your time and technical wisdom.
I'm having a little trouble translating the Bus and internal audio assignments for Logic, have to watch a few more times..
By any chance, can you write editors? ..
I'm positive that it can be done in logic but i have no idea how.
I'm glad to see that some people can use this tutorial. I knew upfront that only a few people have computer based setups at home, but i wanted to point out that you can use the Kronos also quite nice in such setups.
But of course you could also use a different masterkeyboard to achieve the same results. It doesn't have to be a Kronos. But by using the system this way your Kronos get expanded with every VSTI you own in realtime for your live jams of performances. That's a lot of synth and performance power when you setup the enviroment the way i've described in the video.

everything was layered.Lou wrote:You didn't mention, but were you using any key mapping between Omni and Kronos or we're you layering everything in this example?qrobinez wrote:

2 sounds of omnipshere had the latch button set to on (the percussion sounds), you see me trigger the second percussion sound halfway the demo.
The rest is played on top of that (layered) in realtime. You could of course assign keymappings to each sound, but i didn't do that for this demo.
So basicly what i did was:
- loading omnisphere
- loading a live performance preset i've made earlier
- started playing with the kronos connected to live mode and recorded that in realtime.
Outstanding!!!
All I can say is, "Wow, that video blew my mind"
What great potage " Oops ", skills you have there qrobinez
Not to mention, I never heard of Omnisphere but did some research after viewing the video and yikes...
It's like 500.00 smackers.
Looks like Jordan is a fan as well of this software.
But, I'm thinking with your help and the community here we can accomplish awesome sounds as well with the Kronos.
We just need Korg and Sound Quest to step up their game with the editor to compliment the rig (see my requests please).

I would even sign up for beta testing the next versions of the editor.
Anyway, we truly appreciate ALL your time and support you continue to give to our community.
Simply the best!!!
Thanks so much for everything, qrobinez!

Re: Outstanding!!!
Yes, omnisphere is an expensive vsti, but i think it's worth the money. However, the tricks i've shown in that video works with every vsti or hardware synth, so you don't need omnisphere to achieve the same technical results. So you could try it in your own studioDrpC wrote:All I can say is, "Wow, that video blew my mind"![]()

i agree, the kronos itself can do the same kind of things. My upcomming combi collection has 32 combis that can do these kind of things. Watch my channel later this week for an example of one of those combis in action. It's really impressive what the Kronos can do with just one combi.DrpC wrote: But, I'm thinking with your help and the community here we can accomplish awesome sounds as well with the Kronos.

Another great video
Thanks for the demonstrating the internal summing technique. Can't wait to try that out with some VST synths.

Thank you very much ... I think Sharp should make a sticky post of all your videos; they are a great resource.
