Sorry for my - for you maybe - trivial question, since I do not use a DAW myself:
Is it still necessary to have a cubase, .INS or other type of instrument definition file to be created for your own PCG files after the Korg editor has been released?
(Reason to ask: currently I only support a cubase instrument definition file currently and depending on your answer(s) I can postpone the others to a low priority). _________________

For me it does not. With the editor you have all the information you need during a cubase session, and more.

Thanks ... in that case probably not many people would like to have specifically created instrument definition files.
Only for non Kronos it might still be applicable. _________________

Hi Michel,
as far as I can see the new editor can generate the Cubase instrument file.
I don't know if it works I did not test it for now.
Regards. |

Ok thanks ... I will not remove the functionality for Cubase, because it might be helpful for non Kronos owners. _________________

Cant say if the ins file for Cubase works but I created one for Sonar and it works perfectly. |

Do not remove the functionality. Even with the release of the editor, PCG Tools still has a role to play, especially when you want to do a quick copy/paste assembly to make your own PCG and create the resulting INS file, without having to fire up the editor and connect the Kronos. |

|
|
Greetings, in the last two months I completely overhauled my studio. I sold all my old stuff all except for my two Korg Trinities (61key Plus and 73key Pro) I purchased a brand new 73key Korg Kronos, Tascam DM-3200 Mixer fitted with a firewire expansion card. I also built a new Win7 64bit 8core AMD system to run it all with Sonar X1 Production Suite...Getting everything set up was a breeze. Took a little reading, a little experimentation, and a couple hours...Well-AH!....Just when I thought everything was going so smooth and perfect, it came time to set up the Kronos...HOLY $__+!!!...I have never run into a more difficult and cryptic synth in my life!...1..can someone please give me the MSB and LSB values for the banks so that I can do the math to write the .ins file for Sonar?....There are a few .ins files out there, but they are not complete...I seek to build a complete workstation .ins..I don't care if it takes a year ...I also need an outline for the text scripting language that Sonar uses for .ins files ..I understand it for the most part, but from looking at other instrument definitions I see several other lins of script that I dont understand how they work such as [*] <---what the hell does that mean? Are there more commands other than just .Patch names or .Note names?...I have searched the Kronos manuals searching for the Program change type, and im assuming it must be #1 because all the banks are not the same ..some are 0-127 and some are 1-128..and there is one bank that's 0-95! Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be?...or is it a situation where what I want is a totally different animal than what I actually can get?.... Thanks |

I will not remove the functionality ... your point is also valid for keeping the feature in place. (however I can currently only making cubase files). _________________

Thanks for the valuable information, I didn't know these sites ... however, I assume that the editor makes creating .ins files obsolete in most cases? _________________

Hi Michel
Keep the Cubase script generation. The script generated by the editor is simply by program number in each bank, not by voice type as you have done. It would be handy to generate it in both numerical order and alphabetical order by voice type if you could provide the option.

I can do everything but the main problem is time.
I will add it to the wish list! _________________
