Maybe keyboard manufactures need to rethink about having colour screens and instead use something similar to what the kindle uses, with a easily switchable back light?

What's better, full colour that's useless in bright sunlight or black and white that can work everywhere?

Well, e-ink (the kindle stuff) is still way too slow - and won't work with a backlight. It's a totally different kind of technology.

I'd go for a transflective display - however, I'm not sure how well this works in conjunction with a touch sensitive surface. The same applies for a proper anti-reflex coating.

But in the end, I think an adjustable viewing angle and/or an optional hood would do the job.

I'd prefer colour - maybe with the option to switch to a "high contrast" colour scheme, which may be more or less b/w...

I prefer color ... I don't play really many gigs but I think about 2% are outside and even then mostly in some kind of covered area (note in the Netherlands the weather can be quite unpredictable).

The optional hood mentioned above seems like a good solutions.

I used my Kronos last evening (early 6:30-8:30- sun was out and I was under cover) with the Cygnett Opticlear anti-glare screen protector. It seemed to help, even though I wasn't in the direct sunlight. I had my iPad on stage also and it was getting some glare at certain angles (no antiglare screen protector). So I would say it might be a good thing to try. You have to custom cut it and be careful to apply it so you don't get air bubbles. I think the protectors cost about $15 at Fry's, so you can probably find a good deal online.
