Best way to import Kontakt library
Hiya everyone!
I have several interesting Kontakt libraries I'd like to import in the Kronos. With the arrival of disk streaming, this has become very appealing to me.
What is the best way to go about this? Do I have to record every notes and do my own looping the old fashion way or is there some interesting audio/converting app that could get the job done?
Regards,
Den

Which libraries are you thinking of converting?
One big advantage with streaming is that you no longer need to worry about looping for many things.

Hiya Busch!
Well I have several of them, but I had Hollow Sun's in mind. Like the RMI Electrapiano.

Depending on scripting obviously.. If it's not a matter of heavy scripting, your best bet would be using something like translator, or Exc to convert the patches into sf2..Dniss wrote:Hiya Busch!

Isn't the kronos capable of loading sf2? either way OS 2.0 is supposed to bring better support for this..
Synths: Sequential Trigon6/Take 5/Korg Kronos 2 Minilogue XD/Prologue 16/Deepmind 12/Hydrasynth/PRO-800/Minimoog
Extreme Sample Converter works well for me.

If you don't have a converter program like Translator or Extreme Sample Converter you will need to reconstruct the program manually.
This is how I would approach it. I don't have Hollow Sun RMI but I do have some of their other products. Below is Oscillosine. Because the RMI was not velocity sensitive I would expect that the Mapping Editor will look something like Oscillosine does below where the sample is mapped across the entire velocity range (top to bottom). This makes life simpler.
At the top left there is a wrench icon. Click on it to open the Kontakt editor. Click on the GROUP EDITOR and MAPPING EDITOR buttons. To start off with, find the group that has the sounds you want (my guess is they will be called something like LUTE and PIANO to correspond with the sounds on the original RMI). Isolate the group you want. You are now going to select the other groups and go about deleting them. Select the other group(s) and click EDIT-> DELETE SELECTED GROUP(S). When you have all the other groups deleted, goto the FILE icon at the top and click on SAVE EDITED INSTRUMENT AS and give it a NEW name (e.g. RMI LUTE). Make sure the PATCH + SAMPLES is selected and that COMPRESS SAMPLES is OFF. Make note of where the files are being written to on your hard disk. Again, be sure to give this instrument a NEW name otherwise it will overwrite your original instrument. You should find a sample folder called something like RMI LUTE Samples. You can now bring these into the Kronos.
I'm not going to go into how you go about mapping these and creating a multisample in the Kronos. You should be able to find tutorials for that. A conversion program would allow you to turn the Kontakt instrument into a SoundFont which the Kronos can import directly, but this process is far from foolproof. It has been hit and miss for me.
Another thing. When creating the multisample in the Kronos, keep the Kontakt editor on your computer screen (like you see below) so you have a reference for how each sample is mapped. You can see the Yellow Zone selected has a KEY RANGE of E1 - G#2, with a ROOT of G2 and the SAMPLE is 28.ncw (this is a compressed wave, if you save it with compression off it will be a normal WAV). This gives you the critical information when creating the Kronos multisample. Also, the default for new waveforms in the Multisample is +12db. I usually find this is too hot as these are nomalized samples, so click this off to avoid distortion.

Let me add that you could bring over all of the samples you want in your Kronos RMI at the same time by deleting all the other groups and just keeping the ones you want, e.g. LUTE, PIANO, PIANO PP, etc. You're just going to have to keep track of the sample names and which multisample they're going to be mapped to. If Hollow Sun has a clear naming convention, it shouldn't be a big problem.

Sharp, I've been using Translator and converting them into SF2. How do you do it in ESC?

I have Translator myself, but I don’t use it simply because I find the program very buggy.
Extreme Sample Converted seems to be trouble free entirely. I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with it. To convert a sound you simply click on the destination format you want the files to be in, and then double click on the sound you want to convert to that format. It highlight a batch of them and press convert.
Extreme Sample Converter also has the benefit of being able to convert VSTi’s into Samples, so that’s a major bonus.
One of the big problems with Kontakt libraries is that many are now encrypted so it’s impossible to convert the source files with the likes of Translator or other file conversion programs.
Extreme Sample Converter on the other hand can run the VSTi from within itself and convert the Kontakt Libraries by sampling the Audio Out at high speed.
I have the East West Symphonic Orchestra for example that uses a Lok Dongle. Yet, under Extreme Sample Converter I was able to load that VSTi and convert what sounds I wanted into a format that would run on the KRONOS.

that looks like a great program (just checked the site).Sharp wrote:Extreme Sample Converted seems to be trouble free entirely. I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with it. What your converting progress?
- Do you take clean samples per note with long release times and then reprogram the patches on the kronos (by setting the envelopes and filters, etc.)?
- Or do you sample the completed patch per note and just play that sample on the kronos in a program?
Hi qrobinez.
I uploaded a Flash Animation on Extreme Sample Converter ages ago that might make it easier to understand.
Try this….
http://www.irishacts.com/tutorials/auto-looping.htm
If you use this and export to SF2 format, you can load the file into the KRONOS and just setup the filter and effects the way you want them.
Only one catch though. There is a bug in the KRONOS that can also be found in the M3. They both have problems reading stereo sf2 files. I’m hoping this is fixed in 2.0, but if not, I can show anyone how to patch a file in seconds to get the KRONOS to load it.
It’s dead easy.

I'll record a flash video on how to do this tonight when I'm home.
