Ram Upgrading

Post by musicrazy »

A few years ago it was possible to install more ram expansion on pa2x and pa800 (third party installers). Well now on pa3x it make sense to have more ram since booting time is reduced by onboard battery.

Does anybody know someone who make that Modd on pa3x ?

maybe just one or two Gigabytes........ lol

Maximum Motherboard Bus address management of Ram for Pa800-3X is 256 Mb (512 binary)
and this can't be exceeded.

The difference in Pa800, that fed for all those with conversions , is that extra 2 memory bus addresses
were not used by Pa800 OPS though possibility of using 256 Mb expansion Ram was affordable.
"third party" achievement was , just replacing a few lines of code from Pa2X OPS to Pa800 OPS !
At least this is what I had done before 4 years.

Hi Anthony, trust you are well

Referring to this old posting

"Motherboard Bus address management" : is this physical hardware that is maxed out or is it software issue?

From what i gather you are saying that there is really no way possible to further (256 uncompressed or 512 comp) upgrade the RAM on 3X.

I hope there is a workaround as there is bigger RAM of the same module specs that we could use ... if possible.

thank you and appreciated

I'm not trying to hijack this thread just as a newbie to ask:

What is the practical advantage of having more memory?

If the answer to my question is significant, why would this not have been implemented at design stage?

Hi Beemer

Simply so that more user samples can be stored for instant recall ...like customized user drum kits for usage in styles or patches/samples to build multisample sounds etc.

Wave files are large and needles to say how quickly 256 or 512 mb get used up as 3x only uses wave as format for in sampling mode. Yamaha Tyros 4 for example is an older keyboard but has support for much more memory.

We not asking Korg to give memory modules for free...what we saying is to unlock capacity if possible or give a definite answer that nothing can be done further.

Thanx

Can compressed WAV not be used then, or does the time to uncompress prevent this?

Fact is that 512 mb ram for a sampling-workstation is just TO little... Especially as "Veren" reffered to, the Tyrus has more memory - and doesn't even have a sampler. I always thought this was a big mistake of Korg in their "arranger flagship" development phase..
