vocoder question
is there any way to record the vocoder on to an audio track in the sequencer? got everything set up and working fine, just cant get it recording.
my mind is dusty, but what i remember, you have to set audio input bus in your audio channel to L/R .

If 'Use Global Setting' option is enabled (the box is checked), the Song will use these global settings, and all of the other settings under Audio Input will be grayed out. In this case, set the option to Off (uncheck the box), and the audio inputs will use the custom settings. The 'Bus Select' option set to L/R (INPUT1, INPUT2) - choose this if you want to record an external audio signal.

clicheuk- need more info. Are you trying to add it to an existing sequence. Starting with a fresh sequence? Is the vocoder already added to a Track in the sequencer? Remember, you are not recording the output of the microphone (modulator), you are recoring the sound of whatever synth voice (carrier) you are using. Check the PG page 916. You should be treating it like the output of any of your other IFXs.

PS- What you are needing to do, (I believe) is send the output of the vocoder to the REC bus, because you are needing to record the audio output of the vocoder. If you treat that track like MIDI when recording you won't hear the effect.

Ha ha! Thanks for linking to that, ronnfigg. That was only a portion of the example and is posted more for amusement. Yes, you can set Audio Track 1 (or 1 & 2) to L, R inputs. What I did in that example was take the last effect in the Vocoder chain and output it to a REC Bus. That way, you can hear other tracks and vocode along with them, without recording everything that comes through the L, R outputs.ronnfigg wrote:You might be able to get something from this...

If you follow this example, you can do the same. This uses Kronos' factory program, USER A127 "Vocoder (Mic Input 1)." Plug your microphone into the INPUT 1 jack and go to that program:
1) Press ENTER and REC/WRITE to bring the program into the Sequencer. Press the REC/WRITE button, again, to stop the metronome. We need to route the Vocoder effect to the Audio Tracks.
2)Press the IFX tab. Notice on the ROUTING page that there are 4 IFX chained (routed) into each subsequent effect:
Vocoder -- PolySix Ensemble -- Stereo Chorus -- Stereo Exciter/Enhancer
All you need to do is route the last effect.
3) Press the INSERT FX sub-tab. Look at IFX4, "Stereo Exciter/Enhancer." To the right side of that are the output routings, including the Master Effects.
4) Under the BUS SELECT column, touch the arrow to open up the bus routings and select "1/2." Now you can record that stereo REC BUS.
5) Press the PLAY/REC tab, then press the AUDIO TRACK/MIXER sub-tab.
6) Check the MULTI-REC box (upper right screen).
7) Under REC SOURCE, touch the arrow and set the input for Audio Track 1 to REC1(Rec Bus 1). For Track 2, set the input to REC2.

You're ready to record your vocoded voice!
Mike- I posted that for clicheuk (OP). I meant to tell him that I googled "Kronos vocoder" to give him an idea where to get some answers. BTW- I purchased your OASYS tutorial DVD. Good stuff. Glad it works for the Kronos. thanks for being there for the Korg community.

Actually, these settings are for the audio input mixer, and do not affect recording from the inputs per se (although you can use this to create more complex routing, using effects buses, rec buses etc.). You can record directly from the inputs without making any settings here, simply by setting the audio track's rec source as desired.AlchemistMusicStudio wrote:If 'Use Global Setting' option is enabled (the box is checked), the Song will use these global settings, and all of the other settings under Audio Input will be grayed out. Mike Conway's suggestion is spot-on, as usual.

Arm the tracks - Make sure the little PLAY tab is set to "REC."
You're ready to record your vocoded voice!
1. global, basic tab, sub menu audio, fx control bus set to 1 and connected mic to input 1 on the rear
2. seq, ifx, sub menu insert fx, select vocoder on ifx12 , sub menu midi routing, select midi track 16 and route to ifx12
3. play/rec tab, channel 16 change to the sound you want to use for vocoder (i chose choir) the vocoder should now be working
4. to record go back to ifx tab and on ifx 12 set record bus to 1 ( or 1 & 2 if you want stereo)
5. play/rec tab, sub menu audio track mixer, check multi rec on top right, on the track you want to record with change source bus to rec 1, arm track for recording and away you go. ELO eat your heart out
thanks for all your help guys, superb
