Updated PA3X "V" organs !!!

Post by karmathanever »

Hi guys

I HATE HATE HATE most of those velocity controlled organs - the ones that give you a poor "fast leslie" effect using velocity.
The organ sounds are actually very nice but that VELOCITY switching drives me mad - consequently I HAVEN'T used them!!!

BUT....... I am in the middle of changing them all.
So far I have removed the velocity control and changed it to "DNC Y+" or "DNC Sound Controller 1"

The problem with these organs is that the "Rotary (Leslie)" effect is already built into the multisample so it is not like switching on that nice "speed-up/down" rotary EFFECT.

Anyhow, I have changed several "V" organ sounds so they play the slow rotary multisamples (by default) and switch to fast rotary multisamples using DNC (either controller-1 or Y+ (joystick)).
The basic organ sounds remain the same.

If anyone is interested then of course I will share them all when I've finished. (let me know)

If you are interested, which do you think would be most useful to you - DNC controller 1 to switch to fast rotary (bear in mind you have to hold it down and release it to go back to slow rotary)
OR joystick Y+ (also bear in mind that this is "moment" and not "toggle" so you have to hold joystick forward and release it to go back to slow rotary

Of course, to avoid having to "hold down or hold forward joystick you can assign those functions to EC5 or switch pedal.

It's very late here so I hope this makes sense...

Cheers

Nice that you'll take the time to do these adjustments Pete.. Very appreciated. :) I would like a copy with those settings, however I think maybe it should be changed to toggle on/off, since it's easier to manage when playing live style sessions.. EC5 is already limited enough, for my point of view, so those buttons is already occopied. And would hate to not control my pads-volume with the switch pedal to! :)

But I could ofcourse do that tweaking to your work, once your done, myself.. Anyways, would be nice to get a copy of that work - thanks in advance..

Very nice initiative Pete,
One can't have enough of those fabulous organ sounds, no matter how close they come to the real thing, B3 of coarse.
I would love to try your organs, once done, and I would prefer the joystick option.
Keep up the good work.

OK - Great!!!

I'll finish them this week and organise a download link for you.

Yes agree - trouble is I can't figure out a nice way of doing this.
What I am actually doing is changing the multisample "switching" from "slow rotary samples" to "fast rotary samples" by using the DNC rather than velocity.
I can't figure out a way of using DNC to actually toggle back and forth other than to hold down the assignment button or pedal.
As I said above the most comfortable way to do this is by using a pedal as it is easier to "hold-down" whilst playing.
Also, the best solution I have found is this:
For me to:-
1. set this up as Joysyick Y+ (DNC)
2. then assign my pedal (or EC5) to "Joystick Y+"
3. Now I can switch oscillators hands-free by holding the pedal down to activate the "fast rotary samples".

Thanks for your feedback.

If you have any other suggestions please let me know....

Remember, if you like the current velocitiy-controlled organs then none of this will interest you.

Cheers

Are you playing BOTH samples and then fading between the two, or is this a switch that alternates between both sets?

TBH, when you have a good B3 sim built in to the PA3, why anyone is using the samples beats me, but if you go this route, the users probably need to know if using this system halves the polyphony of the played notes or not.

For me, it's the ramping of the Leslie that makes the sound. Like a singer bringing in their vibrato, it's that decision of WHEN to start to bring it in or drop it out that gives the melody its intensity. A singer that turns it on or off instantly sounds VERY strange. Same with organs. I must admit, I really don't like switched fast/slow Leslie sounds!

200% agree!!!

The only reason I bothered changing these "V" organs is because there are some that are very nice just with the default built-in slow Leslie.
Without removing the "velocity" switching I find them totally unusable.

(I have changed them to actually "switch" multisamples, not layer.)

Most of my "B3" requirements I use through the PA3X Digital Drawbars and my Kronos (CX3).

Hi guys

I have modified several (most) of the factory "V" organs (velocity activated vibrato) so that they can be controlled by joystick Y+ (moment)
I have used the same sound names but replaced the "V" in the name with "#D".

I find the best way to use these is to assign an EC5 pedal or the assignment pedal to "Joystick Y+" then you can hold down the pedal for vibrato (fast rotary) and release for slow rotary - it will switch. (You can of course just hold the joystick forward but that uses up a useful hand!!! )

Remember that these organs do not use the Rotary effect - they use multi-samples with rotary slow and rotary fast already in the sample. So it is impossible to get a nice speed-up/slow-down rotary effect. If you try and actually use the Rotary Speaker Effect on these organs they will sound weird because you are adding a Rotary Effect to a sample that already has the rotary in the sample.

Here is the link:-
http://www.mediafire.com/download/nv8wd ... Organs.zip
Unzip and load the SET - this will overwrite USER03 bank - you can always load them individually if preferred of course.

Hope you find them useful.

Cheers

Thank you kindly Pete,
I'm away on holiday, so it'll take some 4 weeks to comment on your effort.
Although holiday ought to be a fun thing, I'm looking forward to come home and try your stuff.

Hi Pete

Thanks for all your work on the sounds. Could you explaian how the rotor effect can be assigned to the EC5.

A couple of us have put it on the switch/swell which works pretty good, but there seems to be no joystick +Y in the EC5 menu.

Have we missed a vital point somwhere?

Many thanks

I AM SO SORRY!!! I thought I had at one stage done this but you are quite correct - EC5 will not enable you to toggle joystick.
I always use my assignable pedal these days.

So SORRY guys for misleading you. :(

I am happy to set it up so that DNC controller 1 activates it - the only problem I found with this is that when you are holding notes down they will not change until pressed again.
That's why I went for the joystick option.

Let me know....

Cheers

Thanks Pete, no problem. Shame though, it works well with the expression pedal but of course limits its uses.

Thanks again.

Hi Ken

Yes it's a shame. Particularly if you use the assignment pedal for expression - I just have a switch pedal.
This is where a MIDI foot controller can extend the "hands free" options (like the Behringer FCB1010)

Would have been so much nicer if these organs hadn't had the Leslie already in the multisample - i.e were "no Leslie" and had the Rotary effect assigned.

I really just wanted to be able to play these organs without the "fast vibrato" velocity switch as I found that quite a few of them were really nice just with the "slow Leslie"
However, I thought that if there was a way to activate the "fast Leslie" multi samples then it might be worth being able to switch, hence my efforts so far.

Please let me know if you would like me to change these to be activated by DNC Sound Controller 1 - happy to do that.
As I said above - this doesn't quite have the same affect when playing but gets very close but ideally you would need an EC5 pedal if your assignment pedal is already in use.

Cheers

Many thanke Pete. It would be quite good to have it on DNC1 as both of us use expression from the assign switch. We both have EC5 as well that could be used. I appreceate it would be more of an abrupt on/off but thats just the way it is. Using the swell is certainly the smoothest way if you have it free.
