STEP JUMP tricks and tips thread

Post by roblabs »

So after Steinberger posted here: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=97758

I thought it would make sense for us to have a thread for step jump tricks for the electribe2. IMO this feature still needs some work with an update from Korg, but at the same time, its probably one of the more overlooked and underused features. So lets try to work with it as it is and figure out cool ways to use it.

In the link I posted, Steinberger explains how you can motion sequence while using Step Jump. Might this be a way to bring back motion step sequencing? Im about to tinker with this tonight and see for myself.

In the meantime, I'll start off the thread with this simple but useful trick to use step jump to fast forward -

When you're editing or programming and listening to sounds, sometimes you want to quickly jump to the 3rd or 4th bar to hear how things sound....Just use step jump for this! Very useful when you're working with slow tempos.

(As an aside, I thought of a very useful update Korg should implement - in fact I'm going to email them if you guys can chime in and let me know if you think this is good....What if Korg put in an update so when you double tap Step Jump, it blinks like Mute and allows you to SOLO Step Jump only ONE PART.....Performance wise, I think this will really really make step jump ultra useful....)

ANyway, please post your step jump tricks and tips so we can start using this feature more effectively! Thanks.

Velocity Adjustment:

I've got a taktile49 which has a built in arpeggiator. If I want to adjust velocity for single or multiple notes in a e2 pattern I set the arp for the gate I want on the taktile, select Step Jump on the e2, hit rec, hold the pad(s) I want to change, key the note at the velocity I want on the taktile and wait. If the velocity is wrong I just key again until I get it right. Rinse repeat for any other notes I want to adjust. If the part is set to poly it will keep adding notes so I have it set to mono to overwrite my performance info.....unless I want to do chords. Same procedure. Easy!

@roblabs

I'm not clear on how you would select which part you want the step jump to apply to, without adding extra button presses.

But, I can totally appreciate the potential for a sub mode if step jump is double tapped.

I'm thinking that on double-tap maybe the the step jump could become locked. In affect this would actually be like the active step feature from the monotribe/volcas

@immon I think @roblabs is saying it works sort of like Part Mute but the following step selection would be toggled on instead of momentary. I think then if you wanted to unlock them you could shift + step jump or start touching enabled step pads to disable them one by one until they were all disabled returning the sequence play back to step 1:1.

After working with this for a couple days now I want Korg to add a feature where the lights on each step to flash in Step Jump as they play like in Sequencer mode.

This is quickly turning into my favorite step sequencer to work with especially when using the electribe2 to control external synths.
