I'd say DAW as well. I understand the desire to get away from the computer - but if you're using it strictly as a multi-tracker then once you start recording there's no need to have any further interaction with it.

I don't understand your logic: why would you get $200 high-end headphones for $150 low-end synth? Believe it or not, the "high-end" headphones can be used for a lot more than listening to the "low-end" synth. They can be used with a DAW, for example. Or, they can be used for listening to music, or ...

The Stienberg will cover you for 4 Volcas. I'd suggest looking at the Behringer U-Phoria 404. 4 inputs, 4 outputs, 4 inserts for $99. Behringer is, from what I understand, putting out good stuff these days, and these are getting really good reviews. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMC404HD ...

Hey, Beats listens for midi on channel 10 by default, so make sure your BS2 is sending on channel 10. You can double check your Beat by holding the memory button and powering it on. The display will tell you which channel you're on. If you need to change it just press the key corresponding to the ...

Well, genre's aside, you can make an entire track with just the Volca Sample, as it's a... sample player. :P

You'll get more variety and flexibility with all the Volcas however, as you'd then have 2 synths and a sample player, and a drum machine as well if you wanted to get the Beats.

Hey, all of the Volcas use multi-touch keyboards so I'd imagine any iPad (or any other tablet or smart phone) stylus would do just fine. I've got an old Wacom Bamboo stylus here that I just tried out of curiosity and it worked. You should be able to grab pretty much any inexpensive stylus for ~ $5 ...

I run the Beats, Bass and Keys mono, with one of the cables from the Y and one mono track in the DAW. The Sample I run stereo, but that's only to use the pan control on the unit, otherwise I think the Sample is fine mono as well.

I have a similar issue here, and it happens with my Volca Beats & my Volca Sample, though slightly different in both cases. I agree that Lives midi sync leaves something to desired, but I have the same issue with Logic, so I don't think this is a Live problem. If I am using an internal sequence on ...

Re: volca upgrade

Compared to the Volcas I find the Roland Boutiques totally overpriced. They are sure nice bits of equipment but IMO are just not worth that amount of cash. I've also heard some weird stories about bad MIDI implementation on the Boutiques. It's all relative, opinions and all that, but my JU-06 is ...

I recently got a Roland Botique JU-06, I've found it to be a really nice little companion to my Volca family. Really great piece of kit and in line with your budget.

If I understand correctly, you're sequencing the Beats with another peice of gear, right? If so, then you'll be able to loop as long as the external sequencer allows. For example, I send 64 step patterns to my Volcas via my BeatStep Pro. The only limitation is that you can only record 16 steps back ...

Not sure if you're considering a sequencer, but I have a BeatStep Pro, from Arturia, and it's pretty amazing. I'm using it to sequence my Volcas. It has 3 sequencers (2 instruments, 1 drum) and each sequencer stores up to 16 sequences, 64 steps each - with pitch, gate, and velocity adjustment for ...
