Re: Very Basic Question About Controlling the Microkorg

Korg padkontrol >>microkorg >>to softsynths I assume you have the Padkontrol connected to the Microkorg's MIDI IN, and the MK's MIDI OUT hooked up to your computer's MIDI interface, right? If you do it that way, the Padkontrol would control the Microkorg (assuming they're both set to the same MIDI ...

The "encoders" are just regular potentiometers. Find ones that are the same size, value (resistance), taper and pinout and they should drop right in. The LEDs are probably just basic ones. Not high-brightness or anything. The pitch bender is probably out of alignment if it's sticking, or the spring ...

Turn off memory protection on the Microkorg. To do this, hold down SHIFT and press the 8 pad. Then turn knob 1 until the display reads "OFF". Hit SHIFT to exit this mode. You should be able to write patches now.

1. Correct, you'd get A C E A C E A C E in ascending. 2. I don't know what the limit is, or if there is one, but it's probably more than the number of fingers you have. I've never run into one, but then I haven't tried to press every key at once with the arpeggiator running either. ;) 3. Correct. It ...

First, make sure you have the correct cables plugged into the MIDI IN and OUT jacks on the back of the MK. Next, in your software, you'll have to select the MIDI interface you're using. Sometimes they default to the GM synth built into Windows until you change it. Go into the setup or configuration ...

I'm new to synths, I just tried the arpeggiator settings electric dragon mentioned but doesn't have the same effect as holding down a key. It makes kind of a stuttered sound, not a nice long sustained sound. Are there other setting I have to change too?
Set the arpeggiator Gate parameter to 100%.

You can't "erase" as in delete patches, you can only overwrite them with other patches.

So create new patches and write over the ones you don't like.

Go to mixer, and turn up osc2 level. When you initialize a patch, osc2 is set to zero on the mixer.

The Microkorg is an analog modeling synthesizer, so no, it's not possible to get an authentic acoustic piano sound. With some programming chops you can create a sound that resembles a piano though. Electric pianos are doable as well. It's not like you would want to play those mini keys like a piano ...

Is the shaft loose or just the knob?

If it's just the knob, pull it off, put a small piece of tape on top of the shaft, then push the knob back on.

If it's the shaft, take it back and exchange it.

Re: How do I send NRPN MIDI messages to the microKorg?

I understand the concept of CC messages and whatnot, but do you send all three of those values at the same time? In succession? How do you make setting on the MicroKorg to accept those messages? And what's with the CC#6 having a spectrum of numbers instead of just one? You'd send the three messages ...

As long as your amp has a line-level or high-level input on it, it'll work fine with the MK.

If your amp offers overdrive or distortion settings, you can use those with your MK's sounds too.

1. You can run it direct to the PA mixer. This will give you the cleanest sound, but you can change the character by running it through your Marshall. 2. I've gotten some really nice warm string and pad sounds from mine. Some detuning, PWM, and chorus in the Mod FX section can go a long way. The ...
