I know this sounds silly, but have you checked your mic lead, I find they suddenly go . From your description, it should record.

deleting movement of the volume slider on a track

I think I am being dumb. I record a midi track on the sequencer, I record volume changes. I then change my mind, how do I delete the volume changes but not the note events?
