I'm about to buy an Oasys --- very excited about it but I AM concerned that since it's been around a few years, it is soon to be replaced with something even better.
It's not a small investment (duh) so some insight into its expected lifetime would be useful. Note that my concern is not so much that the current version becomes "not as good" but that the VALUE of the instrument will drop significantly sooner rather than latter.
Comments would be much appreciated.

There are several threads here dealing with similar concerns. Korg won't publish any new developments (like most other similar industries) except shortly befor release. So all you know is: there won't be an Oasys 2 within the next few weeks. I'm aware that this doesn't solve your problem. But if you are deeply worried about electronic equipment loosing lots of its original value too fast, I suggest not buying it. But I doubt you can withstand your wish once you know what you could do with an Oasys.

Can you afford it?
if yes, buy it, no question.
I have owned one for two years and it never ceases to give me huge pleasure, and there is so much it can do, every time I use it I learn something new. There is nothing else comes near it for sound quality, flexibility and fun.
And if you get stuck there are some great individuals who contribute to this forum such as Dan the man, Daz, Sharp and Mike Conway ( be sure to buy his DVD)
It will become a classic, I have no doubt.

The Oasys is going to be replaced by something better ... the next version of the Oasys OS !
Obviously no one really knows what Korg will do next, but we do know there is a new OS update being worked on that will bring further goodies to the current Oasys. I suspect that will be the plan for a little while yet and the Oasys will grow and grow. Some time down the line (2-3 years ?), all the stuff that has been developed for our Oasys will appear in a new product ... maybe the M4 which replaces the M3 and Oasys, and is some wild hardware / VST hybrid

Thanks for all the feedback - I've just ordered mine.
I realize there are a ton of forums I can (and will eventually) wade through but if anyone has a recommended list of places to look at first and/or a list of "best practices" to get up to speed fast, that would be great.
I"m not afraid of the technology but the manual has way too many pages to grok quickly
