Re: What Korg should do if new Kronos not released on NAMM 2

They could optimize the hardware, to make it cheaper to produce, add a larger SSD, add a higher resolution display (provided the UI is re-designed to make use of it), add more pre-installed instruments etc. Maybe release a mid-price model, the way the M50 was a budget M3, without a few of the more ...

If there was an SSD in Krome it would have been a major selling point, so that sounds very unrealistic.

It wouldn't be substandard, as it would be digital-to-digital. It's another thing if the audio source would be analog, which is as you know not the case.

Does it have a capacitive touchscreen as on modern smartphones, or is it still resistive (read: stubborn)?

Pitching it as a major announcement indicates to me it's for competitive reasons, and that MOX is one of the marks. If I compare the M50 and the KROME (that are most similar price-wise, especially when considering the launch prices) KROME seems more like a performance keyboard than the M50. In any ...

Of course, the EDS synthesis chip had an SPDIF output on one of its pin outs and maybe it would be possible to have a digital out on a M50, Pa500 and so. From DAC perspective this devices use more as 1 wire on its I/O data interface and here the only solution is to integrate an spdif external ...

I expected that the new version of the M50, the newbie Krome will incorporate DAW over USB, but it seems to use the old EDS engine or maybe a similar approach. This means that you need to perform a DAC to ADC conversion to record its sounds on a performance, a big drawback due the complexity and ...

Yes actually I get most of my information from that file. However, reading/sending sysex messages is quite some task to add, which I probably will do one time but for the next months I will be already occupied with features for PCG (and SNG) files. I meant both M50_MIDI.TXT and M50_MIDIFX.TXT. The ...

I also hoped rdl files contained MIDI. Oh well.

I suggest you do so, if you have the documentation.

Thanks for the help guys. I can only agree: the M50 is a underrated synth! The only two shortcomings it has in my view is the lack of a sampler and decent uillean pipe samples. No aftertouch can be considered its third shortcoming, but I don't care for that all that much! I concur. My main gripe is ...

Re: Why do you think KORG Isn't Remaking Vintage Synths?

As others have said, not profitable. The route to take, if any, would be to make software synths (like Legacy Collection) or as sound engines for Kronos (that are completely in software). The prior would be accessible to the most people. That way you could also get much more polyphony than on the ...

Do you send nanokontrol compliant Sysex? Frankly I couldn't find any Sysex spec for the nanokontrol at korg.com, even though the MIDI chart says it both receives and sends Sysex.

I'd recommend you use MIDI-OX (Windows) or e.g. snoize (Mac) to see what you send and the box sends back.

Cheers,
Anders

Re: Music Software Developement today - Considerations

I'm also willing to develop music software, and this for a very long time. The main questions remain - which kind of software - on which platform - using which development tools and environment. If you want to work as a free-lancing consultant I get the impression that most work is for mobile phone ...

Does anyone have any tips or better yet links on places to go for learning more (without actually having to go on a course) about any of the following subjects: - VB or C++ .NET - I used to program in VB but I find .NET bewildering.
