For recordings I would consider gating it a little, but live I wouldn't hear the hiss over the mains hum from my old analogue synths anyway.

I do find these things vary a lot depending on what gear I output to. If I go via a mixer its pretty quiet, but direct into a record its an issue.

My ESX (old smartmedia version) is hissy too. The ER and EA models were pretty quiet though.

It has to an analogue synth. The Monotrons and Monotribe have tested the water, but a proper Analogue Mono synth to compete with the Minibrute and DS Mopho would be great next step. yes I see parameter values coming up. I think its the filter type, but can't be sure as I switch out and reset as quick as I can. next time it happens I'll make a note.

When it happens the cut off pot doesn't affect the cut off.

I may be my problem is slightly different then. What happens when my Micro is in performance mode (no edit pots moved). Mine kind of does this too. I think its defaulting to edit mode, possibly the mechanics are a hair trigger. Anyway, I just switch to another sound and back again and its usually ok.
