I’ve managed to create some very warm patches, which seem quite high end quality wise. These would be sounds in the classic Tonto/Stevie Wonder/Zawinul area. Firstly, I think the factory patches, although contemporary, are all quite bright and often a little harsh. Dialling down the filter to around ...

Monologue tuning issue

I have been connecting 2 Monologues via midi, with some interesting creative possibilities. The 2nd Monologue in the chain (receiving) is occasionally drifting out of tune. This doesn’t happen when none these are connected this way; sync out to in seems stable. I disabled transmission of all the m ...

For drums sounds, I go for a little reverb (but go lightly on bass drum sounds). Filter sweeps a nice, can be through a pedal but better still through a synth audio In. I also like a little slow phasing for that German electronic sound. For synth sounds, I recommend the RAT distortion pedal. A great ...

I use an ER1 EA1 together. A benefit over using just 1 machine, is that you can set each unit to different pattern lengths, using the amount of measures to a pattern. For instance the ER set to 4 measures and the EA set to 3, will ensure a randomising of the synth's note position within beat pattern ...

I use a RAT distortion pedal. Unlike most fuzz type things, the Rat doesn't filter out too much of the original frequency range, making it ideal as a keyboard effect. Recently worked on a project with around 15 other keyboardists, where distortion was required. Nearly all of us turned up with a RAT ...

Possibly the pattern has a filter change recorded into it using the motion seq function. You could try recording your own Motion seq over this. The factory preset patterns are loaded with a lot tonal variations using this function. If I'm using a factory preset as a starting point for my own ...

For recordings I would consider gating it a little, but live I wouldn't hear the hiss over the mains hum from my old analogue synths anyway.

I do find these things vary a lot depending on what gear I output to. If I go via a mixer its pretty quiet, but direct into a record its an issue.

My ESX (old smartmedia version) is hissy too. The ER and EA models were pretty quiet though.

Not too impressive really.

Korg asking what their product should be

It has to an analogue synth. The Monotrons and Monotribe have tested the water, but a proper Analogue Mono synth to compete with the Minibrute and DS Mopho would be great next step. The market wants analogue synths and as neither Roland or Yamaha seem to have anything in the pipe line Korg are well ...

ESX1 BMP detector

Thinking of using the ESX1 with some pre-midi drum machines. Is the tempo detection accurate enough to really lock into a groove?

arpeggio basslines

Thanks for your reply. Specifically I would like to be able to create patterns on my ER that will trigger the steps of my Microkorg arp. I don;t want to just sinc the 2 units via midi. For instance could I take the ER crash sound and use this sounds note number (49) to fire the steps on the micros ...

arpeggio bass lines

Hi, I am using an ER1mk2, EA1 mk2 and Microkorg set up and want to improvise groovy arpeggio bass parts live. At present I do this very successfully using my ancient Roland set up. My TR626 trigger out goes to the SH101 External clock in. I create trigger patterns on the 626 and these trigger the ...

yes I see parameter values coming up. I think its the filter type, but can't be sure as I switch out and reset as quick as I can. next time it happens I'll make a note.

When it happens the cut off pot doesn't affect the cut off.

I may be my problem is slightly different then. What happens when my Micro is in performance mode (no edit pots moved). If I turn a performance control (i.e. Cut Off) it changes the value of an edit parameter. It only happens occassionally (but once during a gig!). Reset the sound sorts it. I have ...

Mine kind of does this too. I think its defaulting to edit mode, possibly the mechanics are a hair trigger. Anyway, I just switch to another sound and back again and its usually ok.
