Glad it helped. The iMS20 really is very different from any other synth I have used. Non-intuitive but very deep.

I think the drums sounds in the iMS-20 are very good, but of course they are typical synth drum sounds like you'd get from an analog drum machine like a Roland TR-808 or TR-909. If you want realistic acoustic drum sounds you would need to use a sample-based drum source, not a synthesised drum source ...

Thanks for your reply - yes, I've found those and also the videos about the original MS-20 by Automatic Gainsay on YouTube, and I now think I've got a very good handle on how the iMS-20 works. The major lack in the iMS-20 manual is any real discussion of how to use the patch panel. The rest of the ...

The manuals should be in your install of Reason - on Windows they are in a folder called Documentation. On My PC the folder structure is C: Program Files (x86)/Propellerhead/Reason/ Documentation. It should be somewhere similar on your Mac.

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean by: You make one pattern. Then you make more but each different. In the Korg you just play and each pattern plays in order. So you have to copy a pattern so it's more then one spot. But reason let's you create just one pattern each. Then you hit ...

Off-topic: and I thought the iMS-20 manual sucked ...

I know the iMS-20 manual is pretty dire, but it's a complete A-Z guide compared to the modular synth Jasuto Pro. The Jasuto "manual" gives a cursory 4 page "quick start guide", which only goes as far as how to connect a keyboard module to an oscillator module and finally to a speaker module so you ...

I'm not going to be able to give this topic much more - I've been on vacation so I've had plenty of time, but I'm back at work now and it's getting fairly busy. The info on how to edit the patterns you've recorded is in the same section of the post where I told you how to record them - in the bit ...

I'm not quite sure what you mean by Also I don't like/not used to how you have to hit the record button to make a song. I thought you'd just make patterns and then be able to save it/play as a song not just currently selected pattern. Were you using the method of recording patterns to the sequencer ...

Lol. Um: I created the Reverb in the Korg. So can I export it to pc and then use reason to do what you've suggested up ^? You could export the drum loop as a .wav file and import it to Reason in either the NN-19 or NN-XT sampler. So long as you take the KORG reverb off first you've now got a clean ...

Yep, that's the idea - it's probably a bit heavy on the reverb if you were using this as your main groove (unless you are trying for an ambient feel), but it would be fine for a secondary groove with a cleaner main groove, or for a spot special effect or something like that. One of the nice things ...

Yes - although if the interface is very like the original it's also probably fairly difficult to use. If they've updated the interface a bit it wouldn't worry me; I prefer ease of use to slavish accuracy. I wonder which version of the Fairlight it emulates - crunchy early 8 bit or the later CD ...

An interesting app that's just been announced at NAMM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJnZDNoxiLI Anybody else want a Fairlight CMI for their iPad? Developed by one of the original Fairlight founders? A$50 doesn't seem unreasonable if it really does recreate the sound and programming capabilities of ...

Headphones are fine for tracking your music - I use mine a lot, partly to avoid annoying my neighbours late at night. Mixing on them isn't a good idea though, as a mix that sounds good on headphones will usually sound weird on speakers. Hey, we've been well off-topic for quite some time - last time ...

Yes, that's the trouble with loops - they are repetitive, and everybody has the same ones (at least if they are the ones that come with the program). And getting them to match up with other loops can be very difficult. Even if they are in the right key and match your chords, the feel/rhythm/groove ...
