Hesitate to chime in on this, but a block-level backup of the SSD seems in order. The real question after that would be whether the core system boots directly from the boot flash. I don't know if that's the case or not.

Re: re: build quality?

Still, all of this reminds me a LOT of my dealings with Apple computer and their products. Sometimes you *do* have to wait weeks for a replacement if you have the bad luck of buying a D.O.A. product from them... A number of people here have posted opinions of the form "if you don't hang in and wait ...

Decision not obvious for new buyers

Let me open by saying that I'm happy with my KRONOS. I am seeing the keybed issues that have been reported, and they are annoying. Mine will need repair, aand that will be a major bother when it happens. Even so, it's a great tool and one I would recommend. That said, I have been able to reproduce ...

What I heard was that the original plan was for December 32nd of this year, but that technical delays were pushing it back to February 30th.

Re: Some actual comparative thoughts

I look at the sequencer on the KRONOS, or the Motif, or any other workstation or arranger I've ever seen, and I think "gosh, that could be a composing tool if only it had a real display and 60 more tracks". Well now you are comparing a keyboard workstation to a computer DAW.... Only in the sense of ...

Re: Some actual comparative thoughts

I look at a *workstation* and I think...this thing is built for *composition*. Its got all the requisite tools on-board for sound design and composing and recording. That is what a workstation is supposed to excel at. Kronos does. Fair enough. For me it's just the opposite. I look at the sequencer ...

Some actual comparative thoughts

I'm sure I'm going to get in trouble with this, even though I'm perfectly happy with my K88. Last night I spent some time auditioning a Jupiter 80. A couple of things stand out in my mind. The first and main thing to say is that it's a performance synth, and it shows. From a live playing standpoint ...

My great but not particularly esoteric HR824s are nominally flat (within 1.5dB) down to 39Hz, and extending below that naturally; the more recent mkII version claims a little lower for flat response, down to 37Hz. I have to agree with Dan here. I too have Mackie HR824's (original version) and I ...

Per my other thread, you definitely need a subwoofer to get good quality piano sound out of a Kronos or any.other synthesizer. That would imply that no good quality sound is possible from systems without subwoofers. I'm afraid that's going to be a hard sell, and speaking from both a personal and ...

In case it's relevant, I posted a discussion about low end shortcomings and impact of subwoofers in this thread. I'd be interested to see any comments/thoughts about how those issues in the studio monitor scenario translate into the PA scenario (if at all).

Kronos, Monitors, and Subwoofers - Side by Side

A few weeks back, Stephen Kay mentioned in one of the monitor discussion threads that he uses a subwoofer in his studio. This prompted me to do some homework, and ultimately cost me a fair bit of money. I'd been putting off the subwoofer purchase, and the homework that Stephen prompted pushed me ...
