to add to what Thordaldus said, can you check that in Global Mode > Audio Setup > Style Kbd Tab that each element is set to Left+Right. if any element is set to Output 1 or Output 2 you won't hear anything of speakers.
Just a thought.

Haven't tried it myself, but have you tried running it compatibility mode? Right mouse click on the program or shortcut>properties > select compatibility tab and select run as windows XP. It works with other progs like Lelibby and awave

You are talking about creating Sampled instruments yes? then really the only way I know is to use Awave Studio, as you can save the instruments into Korg KMP format ready to be imported into the 3X.

if I remember correctly, Go to the event editor and change the channel to the tempo track and edit the tempo in there for each variation and also make sure that aren't any other 'Tempo' events that contradict your changes

here just my 2cents. I think you have almost answered your own question within your question?! Every set of speakers will "colour" the sound in some way, including the PA800 speakers. Thats why when buying studio monitor speakers you find in general the Flatter the sound response the more expensive ...
