Yeah i have USB running the midi data into Cubase.

However what do you mean by "Are you setting the MIDI track output back into the R3?"

Yes it is recording the notes - i see the recorded notes show up in the midi track in Cubase. Just on playback it wont play them - i wont hear any noise.
