R3 / Cubase 5 integration???
I am wondering if someone who can help me on my issue - i cannot record audio in Cubase 5....
I am running the audio L/R from my R3 to the input on m-audio fastrack pro ext soundcard.
I have setup the proper external channel for the R3 in Cubase, i can hear audio from the R3, and it shows the audio coming through in the track output in the mixer in Cubase.
My issue is it will not play back the recorded midi data in the sequencer. I am aware midi doesnt transmit sound - it only transmits data. However if i can hear my R3 when i physically play the keys, it shows the audio coming into the channel in Cubase, and it records midi data when i record - why doesnt it play the midi data when i play back??
I know there are a heap of questions on this forum regarding midi not producing sound - but i am getting sound in via TRS into external - and couldnt find someone with an identical problem.

Do you have MIDI or USB hooked up also?
Are you setting the MIDI track output back into the R3?
Are you even recording a MIDI track? Are any notes showing up recorded?

When you select the MIDI track, you will see in the track inspector (to the left) a number of parameters such as patch and bank number, drum map, sometimes volume and pan, etc. there are also dropdown boxes for MIDI input and output ports.
For the R3 to respond to the recorded MIDI data, it has to be played back 'into' the R3 via the appropriate port.

Thanks for your help - i managed to find the correct output which now plays back any recorded midi data.
2 other issues i have:
a) How do i record the vocoder? As it will record the data - but in play back no audio, however when it in runs over the midi data - i can speak into the vocoder (without playing any keys - as it takes the midi data already recorded) and i will get results. How can i record this?
b) My arpeggiator doesnt want to sync to Cubase clock. As in when i have the midi clock (edit page 42 on R3) set to either "auto" or "internal" it runs at the speed in which it was initially programmed - which i dont want as i want it to set to my Cubase clock - but when i switch to "ext USB" the arpeggiator doesnt work - in fact the the whole synth fails to produce any sound when keys are pressed????? What am i missing here????[/img]

Check the settings in Cubase under transport > setup, I think, to make sure that MIDI Clock is being sent the appropriate output.
As for the vocoder.. MIDI has no way to express that data, as it is sound. It can trigger the key presses and knob turns you do but it won't reproduce your voice.
You'll need to record to an audio track to do that.
