Is it ethical to sell/use samples of another keyboard that were not authorized by the manufacturer? Is this "bast@rd sampling?"

***ILLEGAL SAMPLES

Post by jojo »

Hey guys. I've recently had the opportunity to purchase the entire Roland Fantom X soundset, sampled in wav, for $14.99

The guy is on ebay and also offers samples of the Korg Triton, etc.

Is this even close to ethical?

It just doesn't seem right that someone's out raping keyboards for their sounds, then selling them to others...as much as i would LOVE to have every synth sound from the fantom-x.

What are your thoughts, guys? Jerry?

No, I seriously doubt it. Then general gist is that you're allowed to sample Programs/Patches that you've created yourself, but just sampling factory Programs or the raw samples is illegal. As far as the Triton and Oasys are concerned, the Korg guys have been v. specific about this. I don't know if Roland have a different view ... but I doubt it.

It is certainly not ethical, or legal. We chase many of the guys away, and they keep re-popping up, like cockroaches. I've purchased many samples in the past and they are of dubious quality.

But it's like playing "whack-a-mole"...

Stay away from them. That's my best advice. You can forward their listings to support@korgusa.com and we'll look into them.

regards,

jerry

There’s a lot more than that available on eBay.

I don’t care what the creators of “Sample Robot” say, there’s only one way to loop as sample and that’s manually. Sampling is an art, not an automated process.

These tools available are also not meant to be used in this way.
Uneducated idiots are just taking sound designers tools to perform illegal activities with them. Shame shame, !!!!!!!!
