Electric drums to control keyboard?

An unusual question I suppose? I've got an Alesis DM5 drumkit but am not happy with the internal drum sounds (too much reverb) and was just thinking about how to connect the DM5 to my X50 to use the drums sounds in the synth but I've no clue about midi and reading the manual(s) gives me a headache but I do have a midi cable.

Anyone else do something similar? Would you be willing to walk my sorry butt through this? It's probably too much to hope that's it's simply a plug n' play effort (after selecting the synths drum sound).
