3 questions - combis and static and pedals

Post by Luke672 »

OK the first question..

I have transferred a few combis to my sequencer, but thre are problems. Say I transfer a piano sound to the sequencer, the first 4 tracks will be used up with that piano sound and I can't change them. Also I can't add a second combi to that particular song.

Also, in some cases various sounds have static, any idea why this is? Sometimes it goes away when I press one of the buttons at the side, in another case it won't go away. It wouldn't go away when i tried to transfer a combi to the sequencer.

Also, when I plug my sustain pedal in although I can record stuff I can't jump in between tracks on the sequencer nor can i change the sound. Any idea why this is. I use a roland pedal, could that be the reason?

Thanks for all your help guys!!

When you say that sounds have static, do you mean that they use the "St. Analogue Record" effect. Some sounds may use it to produce an old analogue record player type of sound. Check to see if this is the case. If you don't like it, just turn the effect off.

As regards your sustain pedal. If you go into global mode, bring up the menu, and select "controllers", you are able to change the polarity of your pedal within the keyboard from + to -. That should sort out your pedal issues.

You are able to copy multiple combis into the sequencer, only each time you do it, you will overwrite the effects, sounds and other settings within the sequencer. You should be able to copy one combi into tracks 1-8 and another into tracks 9-16. The only issue is that they will all share the same effects from either combi. I think you are able to choose to copy over the effects, or leave them as they are.

Hope this helps a bit.

You can add a second combi.

Load your first Combi into the sequencer by pressing ENTER + REC/WRITE
Then press the tab in the top right hand corner and select Copy from COMBI

then select the combi you want and load into track 9-16

The only compromise will be the effects. You will either have to use them from the first combi or the second combi but not both. If you want to use the first don't tick the copy effects box.
Then go into Insert FX menu and alter the routings for tracks 9-16 until you get the type of sound you want.

The static noise you refer to on combi's like C53 Storm Raiders is an internal FX (st.analogue record). Its supposed to sound like that , its not a fault with the keyboard :D

Try releasing the pedal to change sounds, that should work.

Hope thats of some use.

Sometimes the static goes away once I press one of the two buttons on the left hand side of the keyboard above the joystick.

So is this static sound intentional?

Come to think of it I think Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) used the static sound at the start of The Glass Prison

Yes, looks like the effect is controlled by one of the switches.
