OASYS Pricing
When I got my OASYS the other day at Guitar Center they had a $7499 tag on it... which I figured was for the (very) beat up demo model... but when I asked they said it was in box. I mentioned I still had $7600 and it'd be more than that with tax... and the sales rep goes... "hey... no problem" ... brings up an invoice for the Oasys... modifies the final price to $7600 even... and makes a transaction...
What's up with that? Was my local GC just itching to get rid of inventory? (Mine is serialed in the low 1500s). Or are we about to see a $1000 price drop?

Re: OASYS Pricing
I've heard that GC will no longer be stocking the Oasys after they sell the last of them. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come! Maybe Korg should cut the price in half? Or give us a 480 PPQN sequencer?

Yes maybe on your "Pigs might Fly" Quest you could also Persuade Korg to give those of us who paid full Price a half price rebate

You can't even get a secondhand O for that price so Korg aren't gonna lower the price overnight! That would fair well with the Oasys community wouldn't it!

Re: OASYS Pricing
That's kind of a truism, isn't it? After there are no more OASYS to sell, GC won't stock them.KingJ wrote:I've heard that GC will no longer be stocking the Oasys after they sell the last of them.
However, as previously addressed, as long as the OASYS continues to be available I would expect to find it at qualified GC stores.

What I meant to say was that they apparently will no longer be selling the Oasys after the last one they currently have is sold. A guy on another forum, who also had an Oasys, said that he was told by GC that the Oasys isn't selling well at GC, so they will no longer be stocking them. I think I've heard this somewhere on these forums as well. I hope this is wrong! Maybe, the GC guy that told him that is full of crap, but I do know that Mom's Music, the only Korg dealer where I live, also told me that they're no longer going to be stocking the Oasys. They've just recently sold their last two. I'm beginning to worry that when the time comes that I have the money to buy an Oasys, that I won't be able to find a new one anywhere, because nobody will be stocking them. Because of the Lack of Oasys in this town, I have never been able to actually play one for any length of time, though I've heard some great demos and sound clips of it.
Come on, I live in a relatively small town. The local music store here have never had the Oasys on show (well, perhaps a one-two day demo or something like that). Also when i ordered mine about a year ago they had none in stock at any store in the country (and yes, they are country wide). That was no real problem, sure... It probably took some week longer delivery time. These posts i see around here citing "some guy on another forum", that remind me of the typical FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) posts.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not out to pick a fight here. I would just hate to see this excellent forum turn into something ugly.

Your hopes are answered.KingJ wrote:What I meant to say was that they apparently will no longer be selling the Oasys after the last one they currently have is sold. GC salesman will often be good guys and know about gear, but it's unlikely that they will have inside knowledge about GC's business, ordering, etc. That's simply not their job.
Note that not all GCs are authorized to carry the OASYS. It sounds like you're in Kentucky, and according to the Korg USA website, their locations in KY are not authorized for OASYS.
No idea about Mom's Music. Looks like they're still listed as an OASYS-qualified dealer. So is Carl's, in Lexington.

Re: OASYS Pricing
The problem with your statement is the use of the word "they". As far as the OASYS is concerned there is no single "Guitar Center", no single "they". The OASYS is ONLY sold by select dealers, and Korg normally only allows one dealer per territory.KingJ wrote: What I meant to say was that they apparently will no longer be selling the Oasys after the last one they currently have is sold. To get a feel for the small number of OASYS dealers, use the link below and pick a state, then only select the OASYS "radio button".
Now compare the above list with all of the Guitar Center locations:
http://gc.guitarcenter.com/locations/
What you will find is only a small subset of GCs are authorized to sell the OASYS. In large cities where there are both Guitar Center and Sam Ash stores, normally only one of these stores (i.e. one location) is authorized to sell the OASYS.
For example, you will find only two dealers in New York City that are authorized to sell the OASYS, one GC and one Sam Ash. There are alot more GC and SamAsh stores in NYC than just two.
Looking at the GC website I see that there are only 27 GC stores out of 210 nationwide that are authorized to sell the OASYS.
Also, Korg has only allowed ONE Internet retailer to sell the OASYS -- Sweetwater. You can't buy an OASYS online from GC, SamAsh, or anyone, only Sweetwater.
You have to be very careful about information you see posted on user forums. There is a HUGE difference between a single store or two deciding to only sell OASYS on a special order basis versus "all GCs are no longer selling the OASYS".KingJ wrote:

The OASYS IS a very expensive instrument, which is why the number of authorized dealers from the start has been very small. It does not necessarily surprise me that a few stores might switch to Special order only, especially with a large chain like GC. They make more money selling a 100 Korg M3s or a 1,000 Korg microX than they do selling a small number of OASYS keyboards.
The OASYS situation is no different than electric guitars. You can walk into any GC or Sam Ash and easily find electric guitars that retail for $800 - $3000. However, try looking for the primo guitars that cost $5,000 plus and they are significantly harder to find. If the store sells that brand they can Special Order them for you, but you won't find too many in stock.
P.S. - I think you are worrying way too much about the OASYS. I would suggest focusing on learning your Motif XS for now. In a year or two when you have the money to buy an OASYS, you can re-evaluate the situation then.

Given they are still on the list of GC stores that can sell an OASYS, I suspect that store has switched to "Special Order only":Bach42t wrote:I was suprised that one of the largest Guitar Center's in the country, Seattle, doesn't have the Oasys on demo setup anymore. My experience with GC in MI was awful. They knew absolutely nothing about the O. I would go into the sound room and teenagers were playing with the O, turning knobs and playing with sliders and making the worst noises without supervision in site. So I am not surprised they never sold many. I was actually surprised they even were distributors. They did not seem like a good fit. There are distributors like Sweetwater Sound who know the instrument and can actually answer technical questions after the purchase to whom I would recommend.
