i have been wondering this for a while and thought i might as well ask you guys.
What do you think is more used/popular?
I think its the Guitar. but its very hard to know.
I dont know if i should included Electric Guitar or just Acoustic Guitar.
But what do you think?
well of course there are more guitars than pianos...
one of the reasons is that you can get a very cheap guitar to begin playing with and it takes almost no place in your house
that's why most people who decide to learn an instrument usually pick up a guitar
Sorry if I wasn't more clear. what i meant is that what is more popular in the music of today. Whats popular on the radio. Not what is bought more often or anything.
An answer to your survey would require a very large sample, as the popularity of the two instruments varies around the world. In the USA I would say the guitar is tops, but worldwide, it is more likely the piano, as in many countries the guitar is almost unknown.
The question is a good one, and I am glad to see you are interested in the answer, as I have of course, noted you are a student. The thing that reigns almost supreme is that the piano requires, for mastery, that one learn reading other than charts or tablature.
For this reason, the piano is THE instrument of world music. It thus allows a musician to be the "orchestra" for any kind of written music, as every note is ON the piano..
Yes Indeed! and organ was my second instrument for much of my education. I worked for a builder, bought and removed a 4 rk. Moeller from a church, enlarged it to 9 rks (4rk mix and 4' open flute, ex to 2' and 8'), and sold it for more than I had in it...! (One of the few times in my life that I did that with anything I bought!!....)
I was thinking in terms of the instruments in the sym. orch, when I mentioned the piano in that way, but of course it's not "quite" true even then..
Pianos, especially of the purely mechanical acoustic variety, are just too big and too heavy. Most people who own a piano own *A* piano. One. Whereas I've known quite a number of guitar players who own at least several guitars.
When you're sitting around the campfire, which instrument is more likely to make an appearance, a guitar or a piano? That hitchhiker you drove past - did he have a piano strapped to his back, or a guitar? And so on.

Very good point on the Reading! I guess I hadn't thought of that. And yeah the every note part is pretty huge. Thnx for responding! I forgot that i posted this thread and hadn't checked on it. You can do anything on a Piano. It can be a whole song. Some may say that so can a guitar but its not the same. A piano solo has a bass and so much more to feed on. a guitar is just what it is.
