Shar,

I sent you a PM inviting you to place an order. I haven't heard back from you. We have no address for you under the name Shar.

Pauli,

As you know from previous correspondence on this thread, your DVD set is in the batch of 40 that have been posted and that was held up by USA customs until a few days ago. Other people in USA have only just received theirs. Yours should arrive any day.

Best regards,
Rob

Hello Rob,
Just a follow up to let you know that I still have not received the dvd's.
It sounds like you did a great job. Any idea when I might expect my order to arrive in New York?
Thanks in advance.

The box of 40 DVD's packages was released from customs last week, and Graham in Florida received them on Wed 2nd Jan. He then posted the individual packages out to everybody on Thurs 3rd Jan, and we received our first acknowledgements of receipt from two customers in USA on Sat 5th Jan. So everyone else will probably get them today (Mon 7th) or tomorrow (Tues 8th). Sorry about the delay.

Best regards,
Rob and Worth

Further information about the project

In case anyone reading this thread wonders, I send an individual and personal reply to every email sent to korgarrangersecrets@gmail.com. It sometimes takes me a day or two to respond to them all, so please don't expect me to be "on line" all the time. I have another full time job to do for my employer just like everyone else on the production team! This is not a business, it is a project run by volunteers from the forum to benefit all owners of the Pa series keyboards. We make no profit and we are not paid for our time. The downside is that we cannot be as responsive or efficient as you might expect a business or a company to be.

Worth and I did not have enough money to purchase a large stock of DVD's and we are using the proceeds of the first batch of 100 pre-ordered sets to invest in additional stock of 50 PAL and 50 NTSC DVD's that we will be preparing end Jan. We have found a small production run company in the UK to whom we can in future subcontract all the replication and labelling work so we can get on with our day jobs! In future the DVD's will be screen printed instead of having sticky labels. We could not afford to do this for the first batch, but I hope the "home made" labels are acceptable nevertheless.

Any surplus funds will be invested in stock so we can improve our response time to new orders, and to make a fourth DVD later in 2008 if members of the forum want us to do this. The accounts are open for inspection to any customer of the DVD's and I will send you a spreadsheet by email on request. (There are no customer details on the spreadsheet because we adhere to the UK data protection act legislation.)

The facilities purchased by the project include the following:
  • Adobe Premier and Encore licenses
    Video tapes
    Studio lighting
Travelling costs for the production team
Recording studio time and Chris Whitehead's time
    Future stocks (being organised now)
These facilities are held in trust by me in Corfu and are available to any customer of the DVD's who wishes to come and use the facilities to benefit other forum members. Just send an email to korgarrangersecrets@gmail.com. There is no charge for staying at the villa if you are working on a project to help other owners. The project must be well planned, have open accounting, and must be run with voluntary labour and on a "not for profit" payment. I can also loan you my personal Pa1x Pro and hard disk recorder plus one Video Camera.

I hope that in future a set of DVD's will be made specifically on the Pa2x. Unfortunately at the moment, neither Worth nor I can afford to buy a Pa2x to do this, but we will wait and see what happens later in the year.

Worth and I have our own computer facilities which we have both had to extend significantly with several new hard disks, and some other new software (eg Microsoft Publisher) in order to produce the DVD's. I cannot offer the use of the computers because I also use them for my day job. We also loaned £1500 between us to the project in order to get things moving.

Worth and I have gone public with these details to demonstrate to all forum members and to the Inland Revenue in the UK and to PAYPAL that there are no profits, and no payments to Worth or myself being made from this activity. The open accounting policy will continue for the duration of the project. We encountered a problem that PAYPAL have frozen all incoming funds pending the outcome of a money laundering investigation. We hope that this public statement will allow PAYPAL to release the funds so that we can get on with ordering the next batch of DVD's.

We are both musicians who give our time also to benefit our local churches, and we are pleased also to give our time also to benefit other owners of the Korg Pa series keyboards that give us and our friends so much pleasure.

Best regards,
Rob and Worth

Hi Gorilla,

The first batch of 40 DVDs had been held up in USA customs but have now gone out to customers who ordered before end Nov 07. Graham Milligan kindly distributed these in North America for us to reduce the postal charges to customers. We haven't got the next batch produced yet because we don't have enough money in the bank currently. We need about $2400 USD to produce a batch of 50*3 NTSC and 50*3 PAL. It will be end Jan before there is enough money in the bank at the current rate of receiving payments from the first batch. Also PAYPAL have frozen our funds temporarily while doing their routine money laundering checks.

Do you or any other forum member in the USA know a replication company in USA who could do the NTSC versions (DVD 3-up box with one-sided full color insert, plus 3 * 50 DVD's replicated on DVD-R media and screen printed in full color)? We would supply the artwork and masters. There is a UK company who have quoted £600 (about $1200 USD) for a batch of 50*3 from our three master DVD's.

There is also a Korg dealer in the USA who has offered to front the money for the stock of NTSC DVD's and he would probably invest in 100 sets. But we will have to pay him a percentage from the sale of each DVD set for his trouble. That's no big issue for Worth or me because we are not taking any money ourselves - and it will offload our efforts in distributing the DVD's in North America - and will make a stock of DVD's available very quickly at local USA postage rates - but it will take the money from funds available for the next recording project.

What do you and other forum members think about this? What advice would you give about how we should organize the sales and distribution? Consider that the funds and other assets from the DVD project are being managed by Worth and me on behalf every forum member and are an asset for the forum. As stated in my last post, the accounts are available for any DVD customer to inspect, there are no "secrets" about this aspect of the project. Consider also that Worth and I cannot continue to resource this ourselves, nor do we feel that we can ask members like you to help us out for much longer.

Also, a very big advertisement is about to "go live" on Korg's web site for the DVD's - and that will probably expand sales very significantly to the point that Worth and I will no longer be able to handle the sales and distribution ourselves.

I think the fairest way to handle this would be to say that we need a Distributor in North America handling NTSC sales, and a Distributor in Europe handling PAL format sales to RoW. We are looking for the best deal we can get on behalf of forum members. If you are a Korg Dealer and are interested in being one of the two Distributors, then send an email to korgarrangersecrets@gmail.com. You would need to invest in a stock of about 100 DVD sets and would have to organise the replication and sales. Worth and I would continue to handle all customer enquiries via our korgarrangersecrets@gmail.com email account, and customer orders would be passed directly on to one of the two distributors. The rate of orders being received is about 20 NTSC orders plus 30 PAL orders per month.

And here is another thought. We are considering using the "surplus funds" from the sale of the DVD's to invest in one or two additional Korg keyboards so that we can develop expertise and produce training DVD's specific to those keyboards. What do forum members think about doing this? The Pa2x would probably be next on our list because we have a lot of expertise on the Pa series already from our current efforts. If we do buy these keyboards then the assets and expertise will be available to benefit all forum members. Alternatively, Korg themselves may wish to help us out. We will see. Again this is something that we invite any forum member to express a view on.

Best regards,
Rob

Rob, thanks for the invitation in re: to this endeavor. Unfortunately, this is more than I agreed upon originally. This is Big, Big, Big. I am not prepared to handle this along with my other obligations. I will help with our previous agreement. Let me know. :D
