RADIAS as guitar effects processor

Anyone know how I might use my RADIAS as an effects processor for my guitar when plugged into the OSC1 Audio In. I get no sound (even tho I hold a key down to trigger the RADIAS). Do I have to route my guitar to an amplifier first and then into the RADIAS ? Surely not ? Might this blow something or overload the input ?

Try the factory presets O13 to O16.

Yes indeed.

Use a direct-inject (DI) box or guitar pre-amp to bring up the signal level to line level.

OK so a DI box then ... !!
Any advice on which is a good one to get ? Having checked out the web, there seem to be 'active' and 'passive' ones. What's the difference ? Which should I get ? Aaaargh ! More expense !!

If the guitar amp head has an effects loop, then there's no problem using the synthesizer as the effects. In this case, using a quality amp can be much better than a DI box, particularly if you picked the amp for its sound.

I use a Vox Tonelab for this, whether it be running a bass or guitar through my synths (more often the Voyager than the Radias).

Hello!
I use the Radias as an FX processor too, but with my bass.
I plug my active bass directly to the instrument input, but I can get the same volume as the other sources (sawtooth, square, pcm...) without overloading the input. Even though having a preamp and a compressor before the input.
I need to put it up because of the noise threshold, if I have low volume in the input, I turn up the master volume and there is the unwanted noise.

Maybe the radias preamp is a low quality preamp, do you recommend that I replace it?

I use the Radias as a vocal effects processor (not the same as a vocoder). I had the same problem that I couldn't get a sound without holding down a key, then I simply used template 24 for Audio In and it worked fine.

You can use the Envelope Follower to trigger the notes.
You also can play a note and hold it with the damper.

Another trick I sometimes use is to put the arpeggiator on latch and set the sound to monophonic.

That's right, I always set the sound mono/multi, using the envelope follower and the damper latched.

Better than latching the damper is to change the polarity of the damper, and desactivate momentary pushing it
