BE CAREFUL - I tried this - the CDR work fine - BUT it messed up my MP3 recording - got lots of intermittent "clicks" in every recording - removed the CDR drive and all was OK again - wasted my money on a non-Korg CDR - not wise...
Cheers

Hi kjeld
Yes, I understand that, but no matter who the drive manufacturer is, these models are produced at different times with different firmware levels. If it doesn't have a "Korg" badge on it, then there is nothing you can do if it goes wrong or the OS can't serve it correctly, or other problems occur.
I would have been continually delighted with my "non-Korg" CDR drive if I didn't have an MP3 board installed - because the CD drive worked perfectly. The MP3 recordings messed up purely because the drive was there - no CD in it. As soon as the drive was removed my MP3 worked fine again.
I merely wanted to make this point because Korg will not support the drive (or any problems relating to its installation) if it is not "Korg" badged. I agree that Korg's price for the drive is beyond a joke but that's the way it is.
Hope it all works fine you.
Cheers
Pete

Hello Again Kjed & Pete, and Hello to Micri!
I was lucky enough to have my first Pa1x-pro as an example to use when I came to fit a drive to my 2nd one!
The bracket in the Korg drivebay was not in the 2nd Pa1x, as at that time they were being shipped with the CDRW drive.
I debated whether to go in for some light fabrication, but it would've been quite a fiddly job, and I would've had to source some M2 (I think, it's a couple of years since I did this!) the only really critical dimension was to get the rear of the drive to line up with it's (fixed) connection inside the keyboard. I shored up the rear with some sticky pads, but didn't take the covering off, so they were only stuck to the drive. I had a few trial fits, as the 2nd keyboard didn't have the extra front panel with it, so I had to cut out the solid one. I used some more double sided pads on the sides as spacers, and removed the backing tape from the front ones to keep it in place, though it's quite tight anyway.
I tried loads of drives of a similar spec, but didn't get any probs at all from the UDJ-360s.
It was a frustrating time iIrc, as some better spec drives could be seen but not accessed, and I had the 'master/slave' drive problem also, but the 360 was a straight 'plug & play' each time.
(I would've been cheaper in the end trying to source a Korg drive, as I threw out about 8 or 9 unsuitable but perfectly serviceable drives all at between £8 - £25 each as no Korg CDRW-1s were available either from eBay or any of the dealers I contacted)
The hardest part now is to find a cdrw drive of any type, as everyone is selling dvd drives.
I love it on this forum!
I'm gonna wait a few days and then post another glowing testimonial on Pete's posting re: the DVDs!! they are superb
