Sound output muting (audio output cuts out)
Hi,
I've had my Triton Extreme for about a month now. I've been noticing that the sound will stop sometimes when I'm holding down a chord. If I let off the keys and play another note or notes, it's fine (the sound comes back).
Anyone else have this symptom with their Extreme? Mine came with the latest OS installed. Not sure if it was user-installed, or from the factory that way, or if that has anything to do with it. It doesn't appear to be patch related, as it's happened on piano, organ and other sounds.

I would certainly say that is not a 'common' problem with the Extreme, or any other Triton. The last big bug like that I can remember was back when the Trinity first came out, a batch of them had a lot of strange problems.
I'm curious, are you using analog outputs, or the S/PDIF output? Or are you just monitoring under headphones?

Hi,
I first heard about this from a friend of mine a couple of years back who said that it happened infrequently but frequently enough to occur during gigs! He couldn't identify why it happened and couldn't predict when it would happen. It happened on hired instruments as well as his own so he found out the hard way that it was a foible of perhaps every triton extreme and not just his particular ones.
I've had it happen to me too but fortunately I was at home while practicing. For me it happened when I'd played a choir chord, was holding the sustain pedal and twiddling the cutof and the ribbon. At first I thought it was the sustain pedal failing but it happened again with me holding the keys down.
My friend talked at length with people from Korg but they didn't provide any solution or admit the problem (as far as he told me anyway).
So, yes there's a problem somewhere, but nobody knows where...
Mike.

Hi Korgboy,
I'm using the analog main L/R outputs.
My main worry about this is if it gets any worse (as in more frequent, or if it stays dead), the Triton would be unusable. If it only happens once in awhile, maybe it'll be okay.
Thinking back at my previous Korg synths, I've actually had a fair number of problems:
1. Prophecy (bought new) - output jacks developed broken solder connections, causing the audio to cut in and out with a very loud popping sound.
2. Korg 01wfd (bought new) - Developed sticking keys, where the keys would not spring back up (stuck notes, argh!)
3. Wavestation - Power supply died, causing OS resets and later would lock up the synth OS. The only way to fix that was to remove the battery each time. I had to buy a new power supply for it.
4. Wavestation #2 - It had an older version OS. Had a problem with some patch banks for the WS EX where it would lock up the synth. The fix was to remove the battery. I wound up buying new firmware with a newer OS on it to cure the locking up.
And now the Triton EX with the output that mutes for no reason.

Not to add insult to injury, but two people that I know that own Korgs -
A Triton LE has a bad real time control pot (or connection to it) that causing random settings for the EG's attack parameter.
A 01wfd pro x 88 key died. It never left my friend's house. he bought it new and he takes very good care of his equipment.

Hi,
I own a Triton Extreme since almost 3 years now and had hardly any problems with it. But one was exactly like your experience. It took me a while to find out the reason, witch in my case was in the end a simple one. The cause was the MIDI foot controller (Yamha MFC10). It uses to send note off messages via MIDI which caused the present notes stop playing. I changed to a a ZOOM8050 foot controller but saw the same effect. I also didn't find a way to filter this signal out either on my TEx nor on the foot controller. In consquence I leaned to do my playing without the MIDI foot controller and I never never had stopping sound since.

I have noticed this phenomenon occasionally with my TEX88. It only started happening after I started using and Edirol UA-25 USB MIDI interface. This is permanently connected to my Mac.
I put it down to some erroneous MIDI or USB activity. It's not really been an issue, as long as the Mac stays awake.
