Issues Trying to MIDI Master ESX to a Yamaha RS7000

Post by shadowbunny »

Has anyone here ever tried to make their Korg Electribe a master via MIDI to a Yamaha RS7000? I don't need tone generating or anything, I have all patterns and songs programmed into both. All I am trying to do is make it so the RS7000 stays at the same BPM as the ESX but as soon as the two are MIDI'ed up, the sounds I used for songs I wrote in the RS7000 are changed to something totally not what I originally did (and won't go back to normal unless I restore the factory settings on the RS7000). I have tried changing around MIDI settings in both machines to everything under the sun (read manuals, user forums, tried different MIDI cables, etc) and I still can't get this right. The RS7000 keeps spitting out sounds that seem to be controlled by the ESX. I never had this issue when MIDI'ing up more than one Electribe, does the RS7000 just not work via MIDI with the ESX? Maybe I should just give up and make the RS7000 the master?
Thanks

You need to turn on MIDI filtering. I assume you just want to send clocks, start/stop, etc. and no program changes or controllers.

Go read page 90 of the ESX manual. It explains how to set the MIDI filter. Turn all four settings (P, C, E, N) off ("x").

Thank you. That's one thing there I never even touched. I'll try it tonight, hopefully it works and i'll have a happy update tomorrow.
Thanks again
