MySpace vs. Soundclick or other?

Hi!
I'm one of the "Oasyans" and created a few tunes on it. I would like to go online with it - but I'm not experienced in this.
I've browsed myspace-music and sound-click so far. Which one do you recommend to get started with? Are there any hidden traps?
I think myspace allows only an upload of 3 songs - but it seems to be more popular. At the same time I got the impression that soundclick is more taylored to music. It seems easier to find different types of songs etc.
Or should one use as many sources as possible?
Are there any other popular sites for promoting your music?

Hi,
You didn't specify your musical style, but both Soundclick, and MySpace are dominated by the Hip Hop comunity.
Nothing wrong with that, but that's not my genre.
Although I enjoy some popularity at Soundclick, MySpace has such a bad rep for a lot of reasons, that I decided to stay away.
iacmusic.com and Bonxo.com are becoming increasingly popular, and are both free for the basic package.

I use Soundclick, and I'm perfectly happy with them. Never had a problem.

@Stephen: I dont make Hiphop - that's for sure.

I write songs with German or English text and that are more Pop/Rock-like. You can find some examples in my interview on the Oasys-blog: http://www.blogasys.petermmahr.com/
I couldn't find out how many songs you can upload at soundclick. I'm pretty sure there are some limitations ...
EDIT: Hey, I like your music - just listened to some of your many songs on soundclick!

@Riot: It's strange that most of the people I know prefer soundclick - and at the same time myspace gets more of the attention.

I don't remember any restrictions on the number of songs that can be posted at Soundclick, but I've been a VIP member for years now and may have just forgotten.

I'm enjoying Watermeditation mix 4, as I type, very nice.

I just saw that download.com has a music upload feature for artists.
Don´t how good/bad it is, but happened to find a song from "Trance Control" there (no:1 artist on former mp3.com site)

Another good site is songplanet.com ... been there for a number of years (and on soundclick, of course). I even started doing live radio shows on songplanet over 3 years ago and still am loving it. Great Indie music community and what makes it special are the live DJ radio shows.

We used to do that over at ampcast.com when they were the big thing a few years back. I even DJed a show.

It was a good community but not enough real advertising dollars and the musicians got tired of the "I gotta pay to get played" reality of it.

But I will check out the two above mentioned sites.

Well, I'm at 3 sites, MySpace, Soundclick and ezfolk (http://ezfolk.com).

I started with MySpace about 2 years ago and it does have many negative sides to it. And yet I still get the impression it's where people listen most and also where most musicians are. I had no idea they were dominated by the Hip Hop Scene! I met many musicians who don't do Hip Hop, but Pop/Rock, Folk, Chanson, Jazz etc. There are no restrictions as far as I know. By now you can upload as many songs as you like. As far as I'm concerned it's a nice way of getting into touch with like-minded people. So I put the negative sides aside and concentrate on the good ones.

On Soundclick I do have the impression that there are many Hip Hop people and I also find it quite complicated to navigate. I always get lost...but well, it's another chance of being heard.

Finally Ezfolk is ok for Folk and Singer/Songwriters. There are mostly American people who do Folk songs, and many who play ukulele. Other genres are welcomed but you get a bit lost/forgotten because there are so many ukulele players out there. But they are all very friendly and open-minded. It's quite a small place but it's like a family with a nice, cosy atmosphere (which is quite the opposite of MySpace).

Hi, I have both soundclick and myspace. I like them both, but I feel myspace will get you more plays. I easily get 100 plays in a week and sometimes more. I have a the snocap system which is myspace's system for indi artist to sell there trax online. I am not sure how either myspace and soundclick do things legally.
