An I/O interface or a sound card with 1/4" in. Or a snazzy one with XLR in and phantom power. But those are rare. I'd suggest a mixer.
You can either get a Behringer 20$ I/O off ebay. (Runs a 1/4" to USB).
Or you can drop up to 5000$ on a Digi mixer. I think there's even one for 38,000$. So, there's every size and shape and power of mixer that runs to a computer known to man. But for starters, I'd go with a Behringer I/O.

Or you could go cheap like I do as most computers have a "line in" jack already. (though I'm sure some will say the sound isn't as good??)Mvp82 wrote:What do I need to buy if I want to run sounds to my computer?

Use this in the headphone jack:

and a cable like this:

and run the thing into your line in. Then record with your favorite software.
Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd have to just shove them together.
That's the same setup I use, running from my Electribe's headphone jack.
Perhaps I should run it from an output instead?

Right on guys. So my live shows now just consist of my Roland Sh-201, Roland XP-30, Kaoss Pad 2, and my EMX-1.
I have a Novation X-station 25 and my bassist and vocalist both have macbooks and have logic, so it's pretty dumb for us not to be taking advantage of it. Ruso and some other guys have been leading me toward Ableton Live. I haven't had much time to research it, but from what I've heard, it seems like it's the program to use.
So what would be the best route to getting the X-station into the computer? Would it be best to go midi and to run sounds from the computer?

Well... That depends. Don't you like the sounds of the X-Station? For the live feel I would record audio. But if you're going for a studio album, maybe you should do the midi for quantizing and editing the notes afterwards. Of course you would need some decent soft synths to send the midi information to.
Ain't got no monkeys in my family.
