How to use Synthesizer?

Post by kinotsu »

I need to know how to make more then 1 synth play

Do I have to record?

And if I do,how?

Because right now I really just want to put like a bass sound or a drum beating in the back looping while I play my song with another synth on top of that

I'm useing an R3 Synthesizer/Vocoder

What else are you using (computer? sequencer? recording device or software?)?

The R3 allow up to two timbres in a program. It is possible to have each timbre play independently of the other, using a keyboard split or being driven over MIDI.

See page 23 in the manual about the VOICE Mode settings.

How do I do the Midi thing?

And doesn't the R3 already have a sequencer?

Even though I dunno how to use it =P

I take it this is your first synthesizer? You obviously have access to a computer, are you currently using any music software?

You can connect the R3 to your computer using a USB cable. The CD that comes with the R3 has the software drivers for your computer to recognize the R3 as a MIDI device. If you have sequencing software it can play one (or both) timbres of the R3 over this USB/MIDI connection.

The R3 has an arpeggiator, not a sequencer. You can use a keyboard split and the arpeggiator to play a backing part while you play a second part along with it.

Each timbre has 3 modulation sequencers which are not really meant for playing melodic parts but can be used to do so with clever programming.

I strongly suggest you read the manual cover to cover a few times than come back with some more specific questions.

uh oh, someone sold a jumbo jet to a caveman! :P jk, this stuff took me a while to figure out, but if i were you I would get FL studio. easy DAW and easy to setup and get to start using a hardsynth like the R3.

there are quite a few "how to" videos on You Tube, if you watch them you will get a good idea of how to program and the capabilites of your synth(s). Sometimes it is much easier to see someone do what you want to other than trying to work soley through a manual.
