What should I get.

Talk about non-Korg Synthesizers/Keyboards and the whole synthesizer world in general.

What should I get.

This has probably been asked before, I hope I don't get flamed for posting this. What would be a good keyboard for me to get to start off?

No flames here on this forum bro.

It would be a good idea to let us know:

1. The skill level at which you play
2. The type of music you are interested in
3. A general idea of the kind of money you want to invest

That will allow us to figure out a good direction to point you in.

That's a good one Synthoid.

I also thought of "are you looking for something with a sequencer as an all-in-one keyboard or is this kind of a for performance only?"

I'd like to eventually use it live, but for right now at home. I'm just learning to play. I'm more into older style metal. I like bands such as Dream Theater, and other bands of that nature. I'd like to have an all in one solution, but I don't want built in speakers for it. Thanks for the help guys.

I would suggest visiting your local music store(s). Try Sam Ash and Guitar Center for best selection. Audition a few keyboards in your price range.

What is your budget by the way?

I was thinking of something used between $100 and $800. I bought a cheap keyboard from wal-mart a couple months back. I really enjoyed it and decided to get something much better because I know I enjoy playing. So now I know i won't be wasting my money if I buy something more expensive.

What Arctica said... a used Triton can run as low as about $600 on Ebay. I have seen the Extreme and Studio versions run as low as $900.

Would a Korg TR-61 be good then?

I think the TR61 would absolutely be a great keyboard for someone like yourself.
I too just started playing again after 25 years and I bought the TR61 for like $550.00 off EBay and I couldn't be any happier.

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

You mention Dream Theater... Take a look at an K2000 from Kurzweil. It's one of the first workstation/samplers around, but it still sounds amazing. It goes pretty cheap on Ebay,

It has a very warm and big sound. K's VAST programming scheme is not easy to figure out, but again this thing is amazing. It also has very good keys, witch is absolutly one of the biggest downsides of the Korg TR and LE.

I've had one, but sold it. Unfortunetly
