.....
There are Hip Hop songs that have cool lyrics. No one by Alicia Keys or With You by Chris Brown.
But of course most songs are crappy. :D
So Sharp what is your genre of choice?

You're a DJ and you classify those 2 songs as hiphop?

Hi tonecre8 .

I can't believe you took this personal. Seriously man, relax. Do you honestly give a toss what I think about Hip Hop ?. If so, I'll take that as a complement :-)

The comment I made was very vague at best and directed at the Black Eyed Peas. If you don't believe me, then that's just too bad because I'm not going to be dragged into an argument over this. You have a better chance of fighting with a dead man than getting me going. :-)

Over and out :-)

Regards.
Sharp.

Um dude what else would you consider those songs to be? Country? Bluegrass? Oldies?  Sure some people may qualify them as R&B or Soul. But generally its considered Hip Hop! No need to cry my friend, some people just know more than others... :D

Part of it is the particular culture involved...and that also is a difficult subject.

In my case..I am a fan of "almost" all music, if genuine and artistic...but I don't care much for Rap and Hip Hop....but after all, I am 68 years old...it's so late to teach the old dog new tricks, so I just hang in as best I can...

I DO THAT as I don't want to fail in being a part of what is going on in entertainment. It is a necessary part of me...

Lets hope all will remember good graces, and give some "headroom", needed in this occupation in any event  !!!

Regards To ALL...John (ellll)

Here is what Will played. (i know ppl said pictures aren't necessary but.... :D )
I actually think this is a pretty good song. Celine has an incredible voice and the music is very moving. :D

What exactly are "proper musicians" I often wonder. Some of those folks that pop up in Keyboard magazine whose playing is agile and dextrous, but far from musical to my ear ? It sounds more like "look how many notes I can play in quick succession".

"Treffer, versenkt" .. or in other words - you brought it to the point.

Great Number,

Not my fav. But done well for all that...However...He didn't stand, and so perpetuates the idea that he is just a "pianist", as mentioned for some time on another thread...Only pianists sit to play...

In order to fill the needs of the "new" order of keyboard artists, many believe you should stand, and not emulate the sounds of a "piano"...He sure has that down well...as he doesn't sound like a piano... The standing part...Well I am open to opinion ...

Please Sharp, I wasn't baiting you into an argument. I was voicing how your statement in an open forum was interpreted by me. Now if you're retracting the "Since when have we started to consider Hip Hop Artist as musicians ?" statement then that is fine. But as a hiphop artist (and a fan), yes I took offense. I "give a toss" when you belittle a culture. But like you, I'm done with it. You have far too many posts under your belt to not know better. It would have been derelict of me to say nothing though. :)

I'll stay away from the personal insults but please stop, you are discrediting yourself even more now! "Some may consider them R&B? But generally its considered Hip Hop!" No (almost) everyone knows they are R&B, or soul, or neo soul and (in Alicia's case) even jazz. Check her numerous Grammy awards. Don't enter into a debate about that which you obviously know very little about. Even if you've been living under a rock, no one considers them rappers.

:3devil: if you can't play a jordan rudess solo (2 billions of notes in 1 second) you can't consider yourself a real musician.

Actually, I believe we "mostly" know a "proper musician" or "artist" (of music.., think about it..), when we hear them, or are introduced by history and the experts. WE choose to deny many, in a personal attempt to protect our own beliefs, values, and opinions, ( You remember what they say about opinions..) AND our own performance..

One continuing problem remains in this age, as in the past...Who decides what different genres should be recognized...and what they are named..? The USA/Hollywood definitions. are no longer valid, as the WORLD is at the doorstep of all places, and it becomes a problem of words...This has been solved for a long time, in accepting the naming of the ORIGINATORS of the area or process or music...

Important to remember..even the best auth. have a problem, brought on by advertising, which is a BIG moneymaker, AND the biggest manufacturers... Many refuse to recognize the control by associations like NAMM, in naming any music/computer related process...and we see that recently in the winning hand played by Blueray, (Isn't that the name??)

Worth keeping in mind.

Wow, that statement speaks volumes about you Sharp! But then I guess there are some that feel keyboards are not musical instruments either.
I think crap lyrics like this support my argument nicely.

Sharp.
Sharp, I'm with you on this one. Most rappers are immitators I mean most of the ones I've seen and met. I own a studio and have recorded at least 500 different rappers including some celebrities. They fix theirselves up to sound like the current hot rappers, consequently they change who they immitate every three to four years. I am a rapper but I make all of my instrumental music (or the cheesy rap word beats) by hand no sampling. I won a national title in music composition with a jazz piano riff that I took from one of my "beats" that I made from scratch. And another thing, they have a habit of rapping about things they don't and never had. Things they don't and never have done. In terms of hip-hop dj's are artists, Artists are Artists, very few MC's are artists, and even fewer "beat" makers are MUSICIANS!
